It has mattered in clutch. Ive lost when my young team faced a veteran team when we had a 10+ lead going into the 4th quarter many times. Means more than people think it does

if the talent level is equal then the elder statesman has the advantage.

sometimes an older player can force a really good player into a bad game

other times the fresher legs of youth leave the old guys gasping at air

Low exp players will make bonehead mistakes. Like foul a guy with no time left on the clock with a half-court shot.

High exp players will take (and make) that all important final shot of the game in a tie game.

That's just some minor examples, but I have clearly seen the trend when watching my games.
