U21 - UPDATE

We've just played the last match in the U21-Consolation Tournament, and i think the guys deserve
a little party: they have managed to reach the final 32 .
For a 'small' country in BB like Austria, this is a great archievement.

Since the last update we've made some nice results. First match against Romania we weren't that lucky,
so that was a loss (67 - 81) against the 35 ranked. After this match some nice results:
Al Jazair - Austria 90-106 (38098)
Schnitzler was hot with 22 pts/5 ast.
Austria - Paraguay 104-81 (38166)
Paraguay tried harder, but Engelmair dominated inside (28 pts/13 reb.), assisted bij Dobner (21 pts)
Austria - Pakistan 120-37 (38212)
Total domination, what can i say more. Dobner had again a great part with 33 pts. but Engelmair (26 reb) and Schnitzler (11 ast. / 20 pts.) played great, like the whole team did.

After these matches we were placed 34th in the consolation tournament, and we had to win the last game.
Opponent: Israel, nr. 18 in the list. No easy task, but with great effort, good prediction of the tactics and good shape made it possible:
Israel - Austria 85 - 104 (38255)
Absolute 'man of the match' is Engelmair with 20 pts / 21 reb / 4 ast.

Hope we can continue these successes in the future.

U21 - UPDATE

After the great results in the consolation tournament, we've managed to reach the play-offs. Opponent : England.
Because of the Israel-match, our effort was low. Together with a much stronger roster, this match we lost 54-87.

First scrimmage was against the 'big' Netherlands (my foul, challenged the wrong team). Of course a big defeat (127-53).

Second opponent was Slovenija U21 (Nr. 36 ranked), which we played very well. 130 - 126 win.

Next opponent will be Andorra. This will be the last match for Schachner, Engelmair and Dobner.
Big match for Engelmair: He needs 4 points to become Austrian U21 player with most points.


Summary of the Season
I think this was a great season for the Austrian U21. We've managed to reach the play-offs in the consolation tournament with some great wins. On the world-ranking we've climbed from 64th to 50th place. On the other hand, training for the new roster doesn't go to well. Next seasons will be more difficult. I've made a short inventory of the current available players, and there is a lot of PG/SF. On PF / C there is almost no training (max. inside skills 35 pts.)

First there are the U21-Elections. Let's see what happens...

The PF/C position will be very weak for the next few years (!) if nothing happens. I hope we will see some nice prospects in the upcoming draft.
