No you are wrong.. Driving helps players get their own shots off, without the need of a good pass,
Perhaps we are both right? My opinion is that there are two types of shots - driving shots and inside shots. For the driving shot, the skill needed the most is driving (of course). Some inside shot is useful but driving is the primary skill required. It is mostly guards who take the "driving shot", followed by SFs, although I have seen PFs and Cs take driving shots, too (but less frequently).
Then there are inside shots. I don't know where an inside shot begins and ends, however (in terms of distance). I have never heard anything about your hypothesis that it is from the FT line in but that could be true. Anyhow, inside shots are the ones where the player needs a good pass or (maybe?) to be able to use their driving skill to get open. After that, the skill most needed would be inside shot.
Some people say that jump shot is needed for every kind of shot, whether it be an inside shot or an outside one. I don't know if that's true but if you take the rules literally, I guess you could interpret it that way.
Anyhow, these are just my interpretations and why I say that a guard needs driving more than inside shot. However, I have no proof. Perhaps you could provide some of your own proof, besides just one player's stats? Because there are many reasons I could think of for a high shooting percentage. For example, he could be only facing guards with atrocious inside defense.
