Sorry about the mistakes and don't take anything I say as gospel. They are just some thoughts I have working in my head at the moment.

As I said, some people think that the only thing that impacts fouling is their hidden physicality (and also that of the match-up that they're facing). I think there are some others that clearly impact (home court, inside play) but the rest is just a guess.

I also have noticed that more fouls are called on missed shots than anything else. It is very rare to see a foul called on a shot that is made. So if your opponent is missing a lot of shots, your chances to foul may be higher (this is just a theory that I'm working on and may be completely unfounded, though).

You want to see fouls on a made shot? I get about 2 -3 a game.

I think I might have some foulers

Shooting fouls and fouls on made shots happen. Tonight I saw more defensive shooting fouls. Sometimes I see made shot and offensive shooting foul. My opponent had five players with 4 fouls, sitting on the bench until fourth quarter.

That's my belief also but some are really adamantly against it (very experienced users, too). Do you have some hard evidence?

Shooting fouls and fouls on made shots happen.

I never talked about shooting fouls - which are fairly common. My point on fouls for made shots is that they are very rare. Not that they never happen.

So, to sum up:

-fouls on missed shots = fairly common
-offensive fouls = fairly common (I suspect they are somewhat attributed to low offensive flow, however)
-other fouls = fairly common
-fouls on made shots = rare

So, to sum up, my theory is that if you are making all your shots you are probably not drawing many fouls. Anyone care to dispute my assumption?

It´s not that easy to make the shot with someone hanging in your arms...

I'm pretty sure that in the NBA there are more instances where people make shots when fouled (at least 2-3 times per game). In BB you're lucky to see it once every 2-3 games.

Thenewchuck thanks for the correction. Although I did get 2 in my recent game, I do not see fouls on made shots as much as the NBA does. From where could we get the four point plays and six point plays without?

Six point shot? Really? That's impossible under FIBA, NCAA or NBA rules.

To nobody in particular, but more of an observation of what I've noticed about fouling:

Players that back off when a player is shooting tends to result in a foul

Players that are up in a guys face when he's shooting results in even less fouls

Case-in-Point:

Lorenzo Capps, my star SG that I've had on my Chicago Goats roster since I joined BB back in Season 4, tends to back off of a player that is doing a jump shot and usually that results in a trip to the charity stripe. However, I'd say about 80 to 85% of the time that he stays in the shooter's face, he is rarely called for a shooting foul.

I thought when a defender backs off, it's so that he doesn't foul the shooter and a lot of times that actually causes the shooter to miss ... which they usually do in the games I play. Some shooters are more accurate with someone in their face than they are wide open, and vice versa.

Anyways, it was just something that's been bugging me a little. Capps is usually foul-happy on defense but majority of the time when he fouls, it's because he backed off slightly when the shooter goes up for the shot.
