Big 8 teams Review (by Eric Press Release)

7. Shohoku Backers

Shohoku Backers two times SBBL league champion in season 14 and 15 were thwarted by EricUnited in their attempt for a record three consecutive SBBL league title. Still rank number one in Singapore despite not winning anything last season, they are still one of the most consistent team in Singapore.

Led by their two bigmans, Sertug Acay (averaging 15.5pts and 17.1rebs last season) and Jason Peachey (averaging 12.7pts and 13.3rebs last season), they will again be one of the favourites for both SBBL league title and Singapore Cup.

Prediction: Top 3

Big 8 teams Review (by Eric Press Release)

8. Sessioes Doers

Sessioes Doers (currently ranked 3rd in Singapore) reached the finals of both the SBBL and Singapore Cup last season. Eike Balkhausen, Phil Hanson (Cymru's national team player), Ricardo Paz and Cees Jan Hagebeek from last season are familiar names which the fans will be cheering on again this season. The heartache last season will serve to whip up the appetite of these players, so expect them to make another attempt for the SBBL and cup doubles.

Prediction: Top 3

Haha I agreed... Eric said so ben now ur turns... : D

okay we start now :p

S17 - SBBL - Great 8 - The "644" ?

As you see, "Six for Four", where six competitive team will fight for 4 playoff spot on this season. Shwe Toe Ngal, Cheesecake, Fat Alexander, S16 Tournament Champ SLZH, Compassvale United, and S16 defending champ Pekanbaru Jaguars.

Xavis - SGP Rank 11

The longtime SBBL member is back after relegated to Div II last season. Pretty much with similar lineup with two seasons ago, anchored by their twin tower, Czech Pravdomil Mlýnek and Slovenia Hugo Pečovnik, both combined for 60pts and 35reb to crush Pekanbaru Jaguars 113-104 on Season 17 opener. Their deadly Filipinos wingmen, Julian Anas, still appeared as sharp as he was on two seasons ago.

The setback for this team is, they are now only have 8 player on the rosters, which means fatigue is going to wear them out within 2-3 weeks.

Prediction : Until they start to recruit more players, No.7 is their best lucky number. Why? See the "644".

Shwe Toe Ngal - SGP Rank 12

The first appearance on S16 SBBL playoff is a huge achievement for an SBBL first timer although defeated by Pekanbaru Jaguars. Manager Ko Phyo were active enough to eye some talents out there, which brought in the big three in Jakub Ejankowski, Nikolas Lepka and Celso Valente. Their main strength is Stamina, which enable them to consistently running and gunning down their opponent.

However, they will need to add some role players if they are eyeing for another playoff shot. And perimeter defense is still a concern.

Prediction : 5th or 6th.

Cheesecake - SGP Rank 10

Another perimeter oriented team, which relied on their three outside players drawing rainbows, while their two biggies are doing the 'annoying' dirty works. Last season, they were slowed down as they lost Felipe Massana for 14days injury. Their core player will remain the same, with their leader Viktor Sramek, clutchy Justin Linde-Liepins, and Vincenc Katic. Their backup, Singaporean Tan Kim Wai and Juan Pablo Ruggiero, are as sharp shooter as their starter.

The latest from cheesecake is, they have brought in another 'menace' on the paint, Turkey's Tümay Öztoygar. His presence definitely will strengthen their inside defense, which is important for them to become another contender for Great 8.

Prediction : Top 4.

Compassvale United - SGP Rank 13

Similar story as team Xavis, they're back to SBBL after relegated two seasons ago. The only difference is, they brought home one of Singaporean's NT bigman Wang Xiangjia to SBBL. Wang, paired with Italiano Giovanni Duskhu, are a strong pick and roll material. But they have more than just the duo. Lin Baoxiang, Pun Chengli and Viktor Utyatskiy are forming strong bigman role players, while Shaun Russell-Lee, Chow Chun May and Singaporean Fung Chang Ze are always ready at 3point spot if Wang or Giovanni is double-teamed. Chow, averaging 31ppg last season, is expected to surprise SBBL audience with his performance.

Prediction : Top 4. Why not? All they need are Game Shape and Calmness.
