Well, I didn't think their was any arguement that player #1 is better than player #2, because he is, and by a landslide, player #2 is unuseable in a zone defense(and really on defense in general in my opinion).

#1 isn't more cost effective, but that is as you said that is a product of how Big men's salary are calculated, to have a reasonable salary it is in your best interest to have one skill that is way behind the others. In most cases I would prefer to have that lagging skill be IS, if you let SB lag then there isn't a ton of point in bothering to train that ID up anyways.

True, but look at this (174881.1). I came across with this by chance when browsing forums. Especially the part : "SB- dont train" and "low SB will be accepted, high SB is (just) bonus. Advise for all managers who train players for USA NTs. I dont, however, think that you're the only country advising people like that, propably most countries' NT-managers still say that. I'm pretty sure Finland's too (which is something Im gonna talk about in the next Nt-election).
My point is that very few managers in BB world yet "believe in shotblocking" so to say. Since there seems to be many of us discussing in this thread who do believe, maybe opening a thread for the matter in national forums wouldnt be a bad idea if you're interested in making a difference...

Well, different communities often try / follow different paths. IIRC Italian NT tried to get along without high Driving Skills for some time, as far as I know without any real success. Maybe some NT coaches (Josef, Crazy?) can give us some insight in the strategies of the past there?

Yeah, those make me sad:(, they need to be updated in my opinion and I've changed the advice I give to all of my own trainers, and hopefully we will see it pay off in a couple of seasons.

One of the players in my Federation was training a big man for a NT. They wanted weekly reports on the progress of the players. One week he sent in a report like this>

12/30/2011 Shot Blocking for C

Future U21guy ↑popped↑ in Shot Blocking from respectable to strong .

He got back a message like this:

WHAT!!! DO NO EVER TRAIN SB AGAIN IT IS THE MOST USELESS SKILL IN THE GAME!!!!

That was from a NT coach!

Average. Depends on what position. I've put something similar on the up&coming forum.

Defensive PF: 8-10
Attacking PF: 5-7
Defensive C: 9-14
Attacking C: 7-8

Wouldn't be able to do guards as I have never trained them.

I do not think I would react wuite like that, but I somewhat agree with that manager. I agree on not training SB, however I realize it is not useless, just not worth it.
