Fortunately, the outside scoring ratings aren't affected by HCA or effort, so it would have been a sensational in any event assuming the same minutes and gameshapes, etc.
just the ratings from a display purpose, or does this mean good outside shooting is very valuable?
If very good outside shooting was very valuable, I wouldn't be about the only person in the game trying it. ;)
But yeah, it's the display ratings - according to coachparrot, effort doesn't actually change the displayed ratings at all, while the enthusiasm level and HCA both affect only defense and rebounding ratings. So without changes in GS or minutes played, outside scoring, inside scoring and offensive flow will be the same home or away, CT or TIE, max enthusiasm or min.
I think that's why they came up with the matchup rating (points per 100 shot), which is more representative of the actual skill level of the players and gameshape, offense being run, etc. It's also a very good indicator of how the game went, except for the 75% of the time it's not. When I was almost exclusively running Princeton back in the days when Deronimo was in this league, I routinely would have games where I'd have a SG reported as being at 90 or more PP100 and yet see stat lines like 4-18 (2-7). Of course, Princeton also occasionally had the games where he'd have the same PP100 but go something like, say, 18-33 (9-17) against the team that originally drafted him.
Point being, outside offenses are very erratic. Patient is erratic too - same SG one season in a finals game was playing at C going against a guy from Dog River who I know had pretty much no OD, was at 109.5 PP100, and was 0-11 (0-2) after 36 minutes. Thankfully, that's not a season I count as having choked on promoting to the NBBA- Pappy's team was just much better - but the amount of sense the game makes sometimes is ludicrous. The last three seasons my team has shot a higher percentage from beyond the arc than inside it, but still won't take even 25% of their shots from three. It's like you take the current Warriors team, brainwash them into thinking their the 90s Knicks, and that's the state of BB right now.
