My problem with seeded tournament...

Enthusiasm of teams.

If it were seeded... many higher level teams, would no longer have to make choices of... "Do I win a league game, or do I win a cup game? Do I play this player this long and mess up his gameshape or do I play his back-ups? Etc."

Similarly. you'd be taking that away from everyone else too.

The difference is Majority of D. V, and seriously way more D. IV people than you'd think, don't manage enthusiasm or gameshape that well either. So, not only are you giving advantage to the managers that know how to manage this, but you're taking away more possibilities for the D. V human team, or D. IV human team, to crunch time their cup game, and beat a better team in an upset.

I definitely think that keeping the tournament unseeded is the way to go. New teams need the money to build their franchise's up from the bottom, not to mention it keeps new owners engaged in the different aspects of BB. Older teams don't need the money (sure everyone wants more money) and they don't need the incentive to stay engaged in BB as a whole.

So true. The seasons are way too long in real time for anyone to stay engaged for a long time in this game.

I guess the 5+ years old people on here will disagree with you.

As often said, Buzzerbeater is a marathon, not a sprint. I would recommend Cookie Clicker to people willing to have instant gratification on an Internet free game, but that would be mean on my part, that game is quite addictive.

I enjoy the lengths of the seasons on BB. Not sure why that has somehow become a point of contention. Geez.

I totally agree, the randomness of the draw creates a lot of interest and overall it has a bit of FA Cup magic about it.

In Australia in most seasons there is generally a pretty big upset every couple of weeks in the cup, and the fact its not seeded actually makes it a lot more challenging for the higher Division teams who could otherwise just run with a cheaper roster the first 4 or so weeks of each season.

It also makes for a lot of interest in league games in the higher Divsions, as it gives lower teams who might be fighting to avoid relegation a chance to sneak wins against better teams

On a separate topic, I must confess that Im warming to the GDP as an innovation to improve the game.

I very rarely use it, but its certainly got me thinking a lot more about how I set my team, so that I dont get "read" or become predictable

Ok so I'm losing the seeded cup argument. Let me ask you this. Would you be opposed to at least getting rid of the Bot teams playing each other in rounds beyond the first?

yep i would be. random is random and if you seed any of it you should seed it all.
some lucky teams have scored bots this round. its all part of the luck. lower level teams with some luck in the draw can make it deep into the comp. a few seasons ago when i was in Div III 3 different div III sides made the final 16 and 2 od them drew each other so one made it to the final 8.

Just a hypothetical: let's say your league had two teams playing against each other in the second round, and another team playing against an NBBA club. There's one bot vs. bot matchup remaining. What's the fair way to decide which game to break up?

I could see a case where the draw could go team by team and if a bot team is drawn for the first team and then the second team, the second one goes back into the pool and they keep redrawing until they hit a human team (at least once the number of bot/human teams reaches a threshold where it's possible). But it's a lot of monkeying around with the draw which isn't exactly fast in the first place to address a problem that's not really a big deal.

Liking the current random matchup system, here's my game today (68556251)

I was unlucky to run into an old div I team. But I was lucky in everything else :)
-He played his 100k at backup, GE gave him only 11 mins, he also played with backups mainly
-His 190k star got injured after 3 mins(my team is 144k total)
-I guessed fast, inside, and played 2-3 zone. He did play LI :)
-He missed outside gdp
-I did well to play normal, it was just enough(I was thinking TIE)

This was probably the most exciting game for this season, other than Fridays :)
