We did TIE, they CT'd it. That's the only reason, looking at it quickly. We still should have won anyway, though.

:(

Yes, I thought that having a good TS we would have won easily but we lost. I'm sorry because I was sure to win. :(

I think the tactic was not wrong. I chose those players and the tactics to have good defense ratings... and looking the team ratings we had those, but unfortunately not enough.

Bad luck for this one. :( Fallon's coming off a 35 rebound performance in the league and is itching to get back out there for the NT. ;)

I'm just curious, but is look inside our default offensive tactic or just an experiment for this game? From what I can gather, LI causes everyone to take more inside shots, without favouring the bigs as it could perhaps be interpreted. Our perimeter players are not our strength at all, and I'm assuming their inside shot is fairly poor as well. In theory, their driving would also be quite important in order to get inside to take shots, so if they're poor there then that's also a risk. Would it make more sense to play low post to maximise our strength at PF/C, while maybe minimising some of our guards weaknesses?

I agree - I think the ratings and everything show that the tactics were spot on. I think it was just one of those really unlucky games, the ones that 95% of the time you'll win (even with TIE/CT) - we were just unlucky.

The last two losses have both been by two points. We win both of them, and suddenly it's an excellent season. I wouldn't be so quick to say 'what a bad season' - the team is definitely improving, as seen by its continued rise in the world rankings.

Besides, give it two more seasons, and this team will be a lot stronger.

This is far from being a bad season. In season 10 the U-21's lost every game.

People have to step back and realise that we are not at level of top teams just yet. As I've said before we can only judge Matt on what happens in season 15, his fourth season in charge, as that is when the 18 year olds he began to mould when he first came into the job will be 21. Very few, if any, managers were training young players in the right way before Matt came in

While the last 3 games have been defeats, they've been really close games. but you've got to look further than the results to see that the U-21 national team has improved alot since Matt took over.

Against Wales we lost by 6 points, but we TIE'd and they CT'd. We probably should have won regardless, but sometimes you just don't get the luck needed, and the othe team get's the luck they need. I watched the game, and there were a few key plays where we failed to score. Regardless of that, when is the last time (before Matt came) that we can TIE and expect to beat a team that CT us?

Losing to Hong Kong by 2 points is by no means bad. They are one of the "coming" teams in the game. In fact from what I hear they hav great organisation, in both the NT and Community areas. They had 212 votes in the last NT manager elections and as reported in the Buzzerbeater news section they grew their manager pool by 1,000 people back in April, which really demonstrates organisation skills at work. In 4 or 5 seasons they'll be a top NT, as they have massive active numbers and the orginisation to go with it.

Again with the Belarus game if you look at the box score you'll see that Belarus tried harder than us. Whether we TIE'd to have higher enthusiasim levels for the Estonia match, or they Ct'd us I, we still only lost by 2 points to a team that tried harder than us!

I think we can see in those 3 games that we are indeed improving, but we're only approaching the midpoint of our development under Matt. I would class this season as a good one, we are doing what we want to - improving.

We are not yet at a level where we can expect to win most games.

Most of the top countries have been training their young players for years, and alot of them have large pools of managers doing it than we do!

Looking at the results as being either a win or a loss is not the best way to view how the team is improving, and seeing we are improving is more important (and that's obvious by looking at the box scores) considering it takes 3-4 seasons for a player to reach his peak at U-21 level, and then he's finished.

Starting out in Matt's reign there were very few good players. Our U-21 NT was at a level where it was difficult for us to win even a few games, and we were very uncompetitive in most games.

We are nearly through 2 seasons of Matt's reign and we've gone from having no hope in many matches, to being competitive in nearly all games.

There is a big difference in getting beat 116-100 (Versus Moldova (Rank 56 Season 11 Rank 65 now) in Season 11, where we tried harder than them and still lost) and 70-68 (Versus Belarus Season 13, when they tried harder than us)

Edit:

As I said previously there were also a few key plays in the last 3 games in the final quarter where we missed a shot and the other team went down the court and scored. A bit of luck and your talking about a great season for the U-21's!

Not to mention the fact we beat Iran who are currently ranked 27.

If you don't have good enough players you won't win many games, especially against good teams. We are a developing team. Season 15 is when we will see just what a good job Matt did, in terms of wins

Exactly. There is no way that Ireland can be expecting to win lots of games yet - but in a few seasons, that will change, and it is in the process of changing now. I think this has actually been a very good season!
