The Pirantas Purchase: a case of buyers remorse?
Lithuanian Vytautas Pirantas is starting to feel the pressure from DLSU IE-98 fans after only his second game.
Similar to Andreas Bargnani's first couple of games with the New York Knicks, Pirantas has yet to produce after being purchased for almost $ 300,000.
"I know that the expectations were high and these were set prior to my contract signing, so maybe the pressure is getting into me" said Pirantas.
Or is he?
The Lithuanian attempted only three shots in two games, with zero conversions. This leads to averages of 3 boards, 1.5 assists and 1 block per game in more than 11 minutes of action. Fellow import Gary Lea, also acquired mid-season is now posting decent averages of 6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists in roughly 13 minutes per game. Fans are now starting to wonder if the MVP-caliber player was worth the money. "I have yet to see production from him (Pirantas). I watched his first home game and was very disappointed. Hopefully he gets to bounce back on Saturday" said Sam Bad-ee, an Engineers season ticket holder since season 24. "I heard of his potential when he was in Lithuania so I guess he has yet to find that team chemistry. We are out of the running for the playoffs so maybe the coach can field him as a starter for more experience" said Rep E Ter, owner of a hotdog stand near the Velasco Hall.
Whatever it is that's bothering him, he better find a way to produce soon. Engineers fans are not used to seeing their prized acquisitions flounder.
