SBBL League update - Bertero, Lycans sank Whampoa out from playoff chase, revenged last Tournament loss with 105-103 OT win.
The team Lycans supposed to be in danger after letting go their no.1 sharpshooter, Juan Jose Castell, but it turned out to be the rising of some of their hidden gems. Ooi Tse Cheng dropped a career high 37pts, and second year Chan Long Shi suddenly erupted for 28pts as Lycans team escaped away with 105-103 OT.
As expected, both team played their A game, fight their way as if they're on a playoff game. Omri Arnon & Victor Nolledo kept Whampoa competitive on the 4th quarter. Whampoa seems about to seal it when Zarzopoulosh Free Throw made it 3 point lead, but Ooi Tse Cheng hit the big 3 pointer which extend the battle for another 5 minutes. Tight battle still continues, until Michaelangelo Bertero hit a baseline jumper to give Lycans 2 point lead with 5 seconds left. After a timeout, Whampoa were trying to pound the ball inside, but Fransiskus Detjen, who were defended by Fang Shuang Xiang, missed the last shot and Lycans escaped with the win.
Omri Arnon racked 29pts 8reb and 5stl, Victor Nolledo with 23pts, Ng Chao Huat scored 16pts, 6ast and 5reb. Whampoa bigmen, Zarzoupoulos & Detjen, only combined for 9pts and 13reb.
Fang Shuang Xiang scored modest 12pts but grabbed 22rebs for Lycans, who also out of playoff contention after Sessioes Doers won over Xavis 110-101.
The SBBL season 15 will be closed with features of battle of the Great 8 top spots between Pekanbaru Jaguars and Cheesecake.
