Belgium U21 snaps Philippine U21's winning streak, 87-61 (75673)

Calbayog City, Philippines -- Philippines U21's 6-game winning streak came to a halt as they faltered against a very tough and defensive-minded Belgium U21 team, 87-61. It was also the lowest scoring output by the Philippines since the start of the tournament.

It was literally a block party for the Belgian bigs, Pierpaolo Virgadamo and Piet De Brouwer, who had 8 and 4 blocks, respectively. As a team, Belgium U21 swatted a total of 18 shots. De Brouwer also led the team in scoring and rebounding with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Derek De Pessimier scored 17 points while Maxence Demeulenaere got 14 points.

For the Philippine side, Wang Tiankai, Lucio Chiu and Tian Yankun led the team in scoring with 15, 14 and 12 points, respectively. Collectively, Philippines U21 only made 26 shots out of 96 attempts (27.1%), which was also the lowest FG% in all their games. Even with this loss, Philippines U21 still secures a spot in the knockout rounds, but possibly at a lower seeding.

We now await the results of the other consolation games to determine the matchups next week. It will be determined tomorrow noon (Manila time) at the earliest. Please continue to support our National Teams!

Points Leaders:
Wang Tiankai - 15 points
Lucio Chiu - 14 points
Tian Yankun - 12 points

Rebounds Leaders:
Allan Camilo Onganon - 18 rebounds
Lucio Chiu - 9 rebounds
Wang Tiankai - 7 rebounds
Tian Yankun - 7 rebounds

Assists Leaders:
Manny Emil Ricamona - 7 assists
Tian Yankun - 3 assists
Wang Tiankai - 2 assists

Knockout round matchups were just released. We're officially the 15th seed and we'll face the 18th seed Romania on August 19, 5:30 PM (Manila time).

If we win this one, our next opponent will be the winner of the game between 2nd seed Slovenia and 31st seed Denmark.

Just a reminder to those managers keeping our current U21 players, please keep your player's game shapes up. Also, please support both our National teams.

Maraming salamat!

Philippines U21 survives, squeaks past România U21, 76-68 (75970)

Calbayog City, Philippines -- Carm-Eli Anthony wasn't the leading scorer for the Philippines U21 squad, but his 7-point barrage near the end of regulation was very crucial as it helped the Philippine team escape with a 76-68 win over România U21.

Coach Leo had a lot to say in the dugout at halftime after a lethargic 2nd quarter where the team only scored 8 points. It was, indeed, the wake-up call the team desperately needed to push through with this win.

Armando Barberán plowed his way into the Românian zone and finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Froilan Villablanca added 10 points with 9 rebounds and assists. Newcomer Caleb Thomas anchored the Philippines' defense with 15 rebounds (5 offensive) and 2 blocks.

Cãtãlin Grosu led România U21 in scoring with 15 points, followed by Anghel Stan and George Rat with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Rat got injured in the 4th quarter with 8 minutes left on the game clock. He was then replaced by Stan, and he helped keep their team within striking distance.

Philippines U21 now awaits the winner of the Denmark U21 and Slovenia U21 game later, 11:30PM, Manila Time, in Slovenia.

Please continue to support our National Teams!

Points Leaders:
Armando Barberán - 17 points
Froilan Villablanca - 10 points
June Elle - 9 points
Niel Tajo - 9 points
Eli Anthony - 9 points

Rebounds Leaders:
Caleb Thomas - 15 rebounds
Armando Barberán - 10 rebounds
Froilan Villablanca - 9 rebounds

Assists Leaders:
Froilan Villablanca - 6 assists
June Elle - 4 assists
Shannon Olvera - 2 assists
Tian Yankun - 2 assists

Slovenia U21 ends Philippines U21 consolation tournament campaign, 73-58 (76026)

Ljubljana, Slovenia -- Slovenia U21 showed the spectators why they're the number 2 seed in the consolation tournament, hence their impressive win against number 15 seed, Philippines U21, 73-58. Slovenia U21 held Philippines U21 to only 9 points in the first canto, and they never looked back.

Maksimilijan Dobrilović led the Slovenians in scoring with 22 points, followed by Jernej Barbek and Lenart Serncar with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Serncar also grabbed 16 boards. The defensive presence of Luka Šimenc was also felt as he swatted 5 shots and hauled 13 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Philippines U21 was only held to just 58 points, which is now Philippines U21's lowest point output since the start of the tournament. On the forefront for the Filipinos were Froilan Villablanca and Wang Tiankai with 19 and 10 points, respectively. Manny Emil Ricamona had his hands full against Dobrilović, but he still managed to score 8 points.

Slovenia U21 continues its campaign and will face Hrvatska (Croatia) U21 next week. Philippines U21, on the other hand, will hold scrimmages with other teams, so watch out for that, especially our future U21 stars, the 20-year-olds.

And also, please support our Seniors team and their ongoing Asia Cup campaign. Their last 2 games are China and Hong Kong, starting next week.

Points Leaders:
Froilan Villablanca - 19 points

Armando Barberán - 9 rebounds

Next season we wll have another draft, I would like to remind everyone to sell their high potential prospects if no plans to train them. They are only worth good money to you if you sell them early, preferably within the first week after the draft. The longer you keep them in your roster (without training them) they diminish greatly in terms of value and demand from other owners. Again, these are only for the people who have no intention to train. Take the opportunity to earn additional cash for your team.

We really need better prospects to train. Good luck to everyone in the draft especially the peeps who train for U21/NT.
