If you're relying on TV money to be competitive in the playoffs, your team probably isn't good enough to make a deep run anyways.

The deadline has been known for awhile now, and there's been plenty of time to plan.

The TL orgy that is going on right now will dissipate once the deadline passes, and you'll be able to use that TV money to get a bargain for next season.

Juicepats defends daytrading on the ground that stuff shouldn't be forbidden without a clear reason

That's not quite what I said.

Without rehashing that thread, there's a difference between defending something and not really being concerned about something.

No, but it was a part of it.

I just want to make sure we're clear on my position.

You might get someone (probably not, but who knows) that says "OMG THAT JERKWAD JOOCE LOVES DAYTRADERS!!!1!!11ONE1!!1!1"

Just covering my ass.

Teams that have clinched a position, might want to TIE the last game. Those who do not have a TV game aren't concerned about possibly losing to a weaker team. Those who do have a TV game face the danger of losing supporters throughout the playoffs (if they do TIE), or the loss of enthusiasm (if they do)

I suppose that's something that should be considered.

If it was set up so that TV games could not come in the last week of the season, it wouldn't really hurt my feelings.

If it stays the same, it really wouldn't bother me all that much either.

For the record, my last game, which I will be TIEing since it doesn't matter for seeding, is a TV game.

I never said I was relying on the money at all I was saying that other people are and that. My team is 18-2 and has been TIEing for the playoffs for well over a month without dropping a game, and I don't really need a 'superstar' player when I have a NT player and 2 borderline NT players and I'm losing money because my salaries are so high. The trade deadline doesn't really affect me much (I was planning on spending half on a player and half on an arena upgrade) but it does to a lot of people. Obviously a lot of teams will buy a superstar with their TV money just before the playoffs anyway which puts us at a disadvantage.

Plenty of time to plan? Plan around how most other teams have a $300k advantage going into the playoffs you mean? or at least they could buy players before the TL prices soar.

And yes I was planning on using the TV money on a player for next season anyway, but that doesn't make the trade deadline fair.

Edit: typos...

moving TV games off the last game of the season sounds like a reasonable solution.. i need to check that the match works out and it would be possible to have 3 equally distributed tv games where the last game of the season is not included. It would certainly make the coding of the schedule more difficult given the way we figure out the schedule now.

forrest

We all have overlooked something important:

This is an official reminder that all players posted on the Transfer List after 09:00 CET on Thursday will not be eligible for the playoffs. Players for whom the end time of the auction is delayed past 09:00 CET on Sunday because of bidding wars will not be affected.

This means that those of us (me included) that have a TV game on Saturday can indeed use that money to purchase someone for the playoff run.

In other words problem solved (no problem in the 1st place, but whatever).

Like a Jim Rice Hall of Fame voter, you've drawn your conclusion first, and keep trying to rationalize it... for a Canadian user with a season-ending TV game, if I'm doing my math right, that means they have an 8-hour window of playoff-eligible players they can use that TV money for. That's hardly "problem solved". (And I agree with the people who really do think this is a problem.)

Edit: Added inflammatory Red Sox comment.
