Talent, particularly prior to the late 90, in the real basketball world clusters in one league (the NBA) far more than it does in BB.

Not sure about that. I'd argue that in most of the well established top divisions in BB the rotation players have salaries equivalent to no less than the cap of the "star" potential level.

I agree, but they cluster on multiple teams in multiple leagues in multiple countries. The top players in the real world are over represented in the NBA with some comparable players spread across maybe five or six other top flight leagues. The top talent in BB is far more dispersed than in the the real world.
