try to get some more players, until you have at least 10, better 12 guys. Each player should get about 60 minutes per week, +/- 10 minutes. That way, their GS will rise to strong. There's no way to keep them reliably on proficient, even though there are good chances they'll get there with 60 minutes per week.

So, is it that better game shape will make your players play better? And if so, in what since?

Better GS ofc will result in better performance by the player. Better GS could increase his rating, could reduce the PF etc.

Scoring, defense, offensive flow, rebounding. Just like in real life, when players are in better condition they will perform better.
