this is true, at the moment.

However, I heard some rumors once that this might change, that the trainer's skill would become relevant to your substitution patterns (and other in-game coach decisions). Which makes me think our trainer is our coach.

Us, the users, we are more like the GM (General Manager, not game master :p). We are the owner that sells and buys players, and that pays the bills. We are just a bit nosey and try to tell the coach who to put on the floor.. hahaha Kinda like a soccer GM in Brazil named Eurico Miranda...

or like on the New York Knicks, where Isiah Thomas is both the GM and the coach.

To me, a trainer is someone who gets the players in the best possible shape to practice ( getting the right shoes, laces that fit, the right taping of the ankles, good hydration fluids, etc.)
a coach is the person who transfers knowledge, skills, and motivates players.

as a new buzzerbeater user (General Manager) I kept looking for a place to hire a better coach. now I have learned that the Trainer is what I could call a coach. Does anyone else think this is confusing? (of course, not if you read the rules 5 times, and non of them at work or after mdnight!!)

now I understand that the purpose of a doctor is to prevent injuries as much as to heal them....so am learning

I think we need an American translation.

I agree with dennis54, more like in hattrick, where the coach level determines how fast players develop their skills and where you have (assistant) trainers that help the coach.
