If the players mentioned in the OP the one with better stats should have won the trophy. 2nd place is not that bad to be honest
beeing top 5 team in the league and you still have chanches to win it. I won two of my three MVP awards, as the second team in my division(3 or 4th overall). And one of them was with 31 first votes, and in the other i won close against a player of a team placed behind me.*
BB MVPs rarely are players on the team with the best record.
MVP are often on the team with the best record, and nearly always in the top 5(and there are more team then here):
2011- Rose -> best record all league
2010- LeBron -> best record all league
2009 - LeBron -> best record all league
2008 - Kobe -> best record in the west, at a time where the east counted as weak with 1-2 exceptions who ended better there
2007 - Nowitzky -> best record of the leaague
2006 - Nash -> second in the West, third overall
2005 - Nash-> best record in the league
2004 - Garnett -> best in the west second overall
2003 - Duncan -> best record
2002- Duncan - second in the west and the league
2001 - Iverson - best in the east second best in the league
Clearly finishing top isn't necessary just stats in the rl.
How Many MVP votes Love got last year?
* i checked the top 5 division in germany the MVP comes 2 Times from the best team, 1 time from the second best team(division winner), 1 time from the third best(division winner), 1 time from the 6 best(3rd in his division).
And in my league we had a winner in the past, who missed the PO.
