Players don't retire by themselves. They keep playing until they are fired. However when a player reaches 33 they start losing skills.

Just to be clear potential doesn't affect how long a player lasts. Players are kept until you fire them

So your estimating when people fire players? Players can last forever if you choose to keep them. There are plenty of players over 36 here is one for you
