well i can assure you that there is no reason why turning the ball over should make the probability greater that there is another turnover... as to why you are turning the ball over more times on some games than others...

that's a complicated answer. The better defenders your opponents has.. the fewer minutes players with good handling play..the less efficent your offense is.. what defense your opponent is playing...the more unlucky you are.. these are all factors that go into turnovers. give me some specific games and i'll try to give you a more detailed answer.

I think the back-to-back turnovers happen way too oftenhere.

I agree that this sometimes happens in real life, but definetely not that often.

so lets do some quick math... if we have 15 turnovers per team.. and ~100 possesions then statistically we'd expect around 3 back to back turnovers in a game. So I can try to measure how many we get on average in buzzerbeater.. and we can try to see if we can drag that obscure stat out of the nba. I can think of reasons why it would be less... turnovers lead to easy baskets which aren't turnover prone.. but not many reasons to think it would be more. I wonder whether there is a bug in the code in that when there is a back to back turnover that it forgets to report that time was suppose to come off the clock and so it appears to be bang bang which is what you are reacting to.. but in reality the game engine was calculating that it should. Now that I think about games i've watched, I don't remember a lot of turnovers happening late into the possession... so actually that seems more than likely. Either the game engine isn't reporting this time lag to the match viewer, or the match viewer isn't interpreting it correctly.. we'll look into this. You are just noticing it happening back to back cause that is more salient than the actual problem.

I love how when i started writing this post I was convinced there wasn't a problem, and by the end I'm convinced there is.

I placed some screen-captured pics from live games.. Some of them are possibly already fixed by now (after the latest changes on game engine and substitutions).

back-to-back steals (all in the same game, actually in the last 2 quarters of the game, after I noticed happen in the first half and decided to capture screen in the 2nd half):

The time difference between the steals is not the problem. the problem is how often back-to-back steals happen. It just seemed like a bug to me.. like the game engine was generating a turnover for one team and them for some reason generating another one for the other team right after... I was seeing that very often in the regular season games... not so much lately...

This one was a bug, the guy shooting the free throw was replaced and still shot the second one. But i think this is already fixed.

Two problems here: First one is that Marcel and Helio kept replacing each other in a matter of seconds (I only saw this happen that time, so I dont know if it's fixed already or not, but since the substitutions were changed then possibly fixed already). Second problem is the phrase "Marcel substitued for Helio at SG" (it trys to say that Marcel is IN and Helio is OUT), so it should say "Marcel substitutes Helio" or "Helio substitued by Marcel". Anyway, this is a small matter.

Shame on my coach !! calling a timeout 26 seconds after the game started, when the adversary scores the first basket!! hahaha (don't think this should happen)

These two are from domenico_c's strange game at 21/6/2007. Everything already fixed (I hope).

The guy took 20 seconds to tip the ball in on the offensive rebound. I think this was fixed already also.

Anyway, just trying to help you guys, and by the number of bugs already fixed we can tell that you guys are doing a great job !! congrats and thanks!!

I'm curious are you saying those 3 times were all the back to back steals? if that's the case I think that's actually in the right ballpark.. but if there were considerably more than that that's another story. It wouldn't look so wierd if it had stuff like.. so and so turns down a shot.. so and so tries to look inside but there is nothing there.. etc. etc.. then so and so dribbles it off his foot. We need some more turnover types like that.. not enough travelling in the game. wait what am I saying.. travelling in pro basketball... that never happens.. especially in europe.
