I only thought the bonus was when he actually played in the NT.

You mean opposed to just being on the NT roster? I was under the impression that both give you a boost but the guys that play get a far larger boost. Maybe I'm wrong.

I've heard the same thing. Players who play in the game get better merchandising, compared to a player who didn't play.

If you dont swap players often then the star players section in the fan survey goes up and that in one way can be seen as just what your asking for. If you sell players once that has been in your club longer will decrease this section more then those that has only been in the club for a short while or not had an important role.

I sold a rookie draftee (who never played) last week, and my merch took a $1K hit. I was a bit surprised as my overall fan survey had actually increased from week to week, so either that rookie was truly worth $1K to my merch, or some balls are worth more than others in the fan survey when it comes to determining merch. Probably a combination of both factors. I'm going to start tracking my fan survey.

I think there may be 3 reasons why you had such a large drop in merch:

1) You lost both of your league games since the last merchandising update (one a TV game), and you got knocked out of the Cup. During the previous week, which you are using for comparison, you won all three games. So, some of that fall is due to the weakening of the fan survey.

2) You started your team about exactly 1 season ago. I tend to think that new teams get a bit of a fan interest boost for a some time after they start. Something similar to a promotion bonus, but not as strong. I'm not 100% certain about this, and it's hard to get good data, as many new players don't track it (understandably so; even my obsessive compulsiveness didn't extend to tracking it back then).

3) When you bought a high priced foreign player, it changed the salary structure of your team, and now the highest priced player is foreign. My current framework for how merch works is this:
-The players on your team are ordered by their salary (salary rank)
-That order is used to calculate what amount of merchandise they can bring in. So, the 2nd highest paid player will always bring in less merch than the higher priced guy.
-For each player, their status as to home country, drafting team, time on team, U21/NT status, is considered. A home draftee status pushes the possible merch to the highest amount for their salary rank.
-Fan survey overall is also taken account here, scaling the possible merch.

So, when you bought a high priced foreigner, he pushed everyone down a notch. Now, your top salary rank guy is no longer a home draftee (Ratkovic), but the foreigner. And your fan survey from yesterday must stink. Hence, a big drop in merch.

Of course, I have zero hard data to support this framework. It does fit with many observations and anecdotes that I've come across thus far. So I find it a useful way to think about merch. But it could be that the calculation is completely different.

It's not about the fan survey much. The incomes have been very steady all the time, no matter how well I played. Mostly 32k to 40k, if I remember well.

Well, if new teams are given a special consideration regarding the fan survey, then perhaps yours just ran out. I can say from tracking merchandise since Season 18, that promotion absolutely increases merch, and absent a promotion bonus, the fan survey definitely affects merch.

Seems that the income is calculated by the salary structure, not the salary total much.

With my 40k homegrown roster I earned 40k. Now, I still have my home players, but my foreign player takes about 70% of the new total paycheck(130k)

Yes, I definitely agree that total salary doesn't affect jack. I have my team's highest salary now, and weakest overall merch (since I've been in D3).
