I think you did an excellent job last time around except for the Nigeria game. My question is this:

Now that a U-?? World CUp is expected to be implemented soon (or so I've heard) how would you manage the old 22-23 year old talent with the up coming 20-21 year old talent? That is, how would you select players for the team? Best of young uns? Best overall? Mixture?

Currently we have 139 prospects that we are tracking, and all but one is 22 or younger (the 23 y/o is NT stalwart Travis Swafford).

The plan is to select the 12 best players to start the qualifying campaign, and then add the remaining 6 over the 13-14 weeks of qualifying as needed based on training, injuries, etc.

As it stands right now, there aren't any teens that are seriously contending for a spot on the qualifying squad, but we're going to leave those 6 spots open to allow for any changes.

The pool of players is very liquid, constantly changing from week to week, and we need to stay on top of things.

To actually address your concerns about Uxx, we're tracking enough players that if such a competition was started, we could most certainly help with information sharing, and there's more than enough players to go around.

If there were better players who were 25, would you pick them? Or do you like the focus on younger players to help develop for the future?

If there was a 25 year old that clearly would be better than a younger player even after one season of training, I'd gladly use him.

We don't have anyone like that, so we're not, but if there was that resource available, it'd be senseless to ignore it.

So what did Italy do (to win the championship) that we didn't?

Different types of players? Different tactics? Different Enthusiasm management? They just develop players better?

Can't really stuff that into a single descriptive box.

Here's their current roster:

Did they have better players than us? Yes.

Were they so much better that we couldn't beat them? No

Home court advantage did help them immensely.

We could have had our official crack at them had we beaten Nigeria. Maybe we wouldn't have won, but we'd have been competitive.

By the way, Italy at USA on Monday.
