Even if it were, I doubt that a one year age difference would mean the player loses half his value in real life.

It's pointless to keep making comparisons to real life sports.

Isn't BB based on a real life sport?

Sure, there are many realism-baeed things you have to forego in the name of playability, but you can't completely ignore what happens in real life.

If that were the case, I'd have a team full of Borgs and Thetans who scored by dropping the ball from the rafters. (please don't try to make sense of that, I don't understand it either)

And I can't believe you don't see the difference between the training aspects in a math-based game and the ones in real life.

Of course it is. OTOH, one must accept that a part of it will never have a counterpart in real life, no matter how you spin it.

That's one of the things I was referring to when I said that not everything could be realism-based, since you're sacrificing too many gameplay considerations.

Were you expecting me to spell out everything I meant by that?

haha well joe smith wasnt that bad as a rookie.
who could have known that KG becomes such an impressive player over the years.

And I think the BB drafts are quiet ok for only its 4th season... sure it can improve but in my opinion it is one of the most exciting parts of a season and a reason for that is that u cant be 100% sure what u get even if u get a 5 Star A+ with Potential 5 Stars :)
Ok, the difference between those 5 stars was a bit huge but sometimes u are lucky and sometimes not. U cant always win otherwise it will get boring soon .)

Well, since the thread is about the draft, and the draft means young players, which means trainees, I really don't know why any other aspect is relevant.

Oh believe me I know of bad drafts, I was at WSU when Ryan Leaf was a stud and got drafted to San Diego, and everyone said Peyton manning didnt stand a chance in the NFL, didnt have an arm, didnt have the height. Ryan Leaf blew up within a year and now Peyton is a perrenial winner. But basically leaf was a headcase anyways, and I dont see attitude or intelligence as a stat in BB.

However, when it comes down to this being just about math, the luck I am referring to is the fact that someone that placed higher than me in the conference was somehow able to pull two very good players out of the drafts, one is going to start for him and has MVP or better potential ( I dont recall atm but it was high) and the other after less than half a season of training will start for him. So he got the recruits with better potential with better stats, based on the same amount of scouting, and I have the better spot in the order of pick. Thats luck when it boils down to it.

Maybe there is an aspect of correct methodology involved as well. Suppose your friend just had a better valuation sytem based on the box score / grade / potential / +/-variables available. Perhaps you relied to much on the box score, or not enough. How we determine which player is better is a guess because we don't have anything concrete which relates scouting info to skill levels. So if your friend consistently gets better picks than you, perhaps you should ask him how he chooses to separate and rank his scouted players based on the heiroglyphics avaliable to him on draft day.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.
