I'd say training a minimum 8 potential helps in perceived value when selling younger players, and I wouldn't do it with less than a potential of 9.

7 potential is the absolute minimum in my opinion for training for profit, and never for the quick cash grab, it's a long haul kind of deal. (unless you have an amazing 18yro Allstar with perfect skill arrangement from the onset)

You can expect to sell them at 20-21 age for a profit (considering the cost of max level trainer and amenities here too) if you developed him correctly. (and if you have such a 7 pot. 20yro it will probably be in the U21 or at least on-call).

Playoffs is not a period to sell 18-20-year-olds, as people are looking for well-developed players to win matches.

It's certainly possible to do it, but I wouldn't rely on it for a quick 1 season cash grab. I believe you could do it is by grabbing a very high pot. 9+ and training him in a single important skill all season, for example, inside shot. Selling him later as a work-in-progress for someone to take over the next season with a dutiful promotion in the U21 boards of the relevant country.

Best way to make money on young players, is to train them as fast as possible with 1-1 on forward en OD on pg.
get a special young trainer for season 18 en 19. That way with 2 lvl 4 trainers you should get around 35 pops with 1-1 training on forwards.

Than fire the young trainer season 20. train OD for 2 seasons.
Than start 22 you have a player above 100 TSP and those sell pretty well. Salary should be not too high and it are decent players that fit Look Inside for most teams.

starting with at least 50 TSP!

I know teams that do this training and make good profits that way.

If you really want to earn money, it is better to focus on stadium build, and perform well in your league with cost friendly players. That way you can make more than 100k a week when stadium is well build and in my opinion that almost always makes more money than you can earn with training players.

@LA-flaterik123: Thanks for the estimate, if that is what they are likely to be worth then I would be very happy with that. I'm happy to train players long-term, just trying to plan ahead to avoid wasting time doing the wrong thing.

@Ruaidri: Thanks, that's excellent detail and gives me something to think about for trainees next season. I've been upgrading my arena regularly, and my league is mostly bots, so I'm doing well in that regard.

Let me add this. Those players who have insane SB, high ID and RB, moderate IS, high PA, balanced outside skills sell incredibly high these days. You may take a look at players like this on the transfer market.
