TGIF MANILA strike first, take 1-0 series lead over Team Polydozel

PAL ARENA -- The Team Polydozel failed to secure home-court advantage for their finals series with TGIF MANILA.

Ceasar Hijastro scored 15 points, Roberto Alfonso had 30 points and 11 rebounds and the TGIF MANILA beat the Team Polydozel 89-83 to take a 1-0 series lead.

"It was big for us to come out and establish our presence early," Hijastro said. "We did a good job of attacking."

The Team Polydozel staggered to the finish without two key players (Guarnes and Tañas ), all of whom fouled out late in regulation.

“It is a different game and they call it a lot different here,” Guarnes said of his foul trouble. “There are a lot of hand checks and movements.”

“I didn’t play too well and I didn’t play hard enough, Tañas said of his play. “When you don’t play hard enough you don’t win.”

"It was tough at the end of the fourth," says the Polydozel coach. "Some things didn't go our way. The guys just kept playing and playing and made the most of those final opportunities."

The TGIF MANILA earned their first win against the Team Polydozel this season.

"We have had many matches this season and they have not gone our way. We have been working hard and this is a well deserved win.” Ron Jacobs said.

TGIF MANILA COUNTING ON HOMECOURT EDGE

After taking home a dramatic win in Game 1, the TGIF MANILA look to close out their opponent as they welcome the Team Polydozel to Fridays Coliseum for a crucial Game 2 BB Finals matchup.

"It'd be a great challenge for us again,'' Roberto Alfonso said. "We would be excited to play. I think they'd be excited to play us, too. I'm sure they'd have revenge on their minds. I think it'd be a good matchup. It'd be a good story to write."

"A little deja vu” Ceasar Hijastro. "It doesn't matter who we play or where. I'm just excited to get the game started and hopefully try to win a championship."

Jubas Beasts Settles for Third

Manila - In a knockout game for third place in the League 1.1, the Jubas Beasts have beaten San Miguel Beermen 111-68(4151157). The Beasts pulverized the sister team of the Celestial Punks in high scoring game. The Boozies weren't able to keep up with the high-tempo game which the Beasts forced them to play. Noel Louzada paced his team with the game high 29 points. While the Beasts big men kept Mario Cane in check by bringing in fresh legs to guard him.

Coach Alas said the following statement after the game. "It was great to win against the sister of the team that knocked us off the playoffs. Though we're still disappointed that we're not able to play for the rings, we have to leave it at that and focus on making another run next season. With new and better teams coming in, it will be a tough task but I know that my boys are up to it. Oh yeah, congrats to the Jologs for living another day to fight."

team Polydozel managed to win game 2

One thing that's being said in the past news, is that whoever got the home-court advantage has a pretty good chance in winning the finals game.

However, it seems that it is not the case in this certain league finals series.

Team Polydozel managed to win impressively against TGIF MANILA by the score of 111-98, at TGIF's Fridays Coliseum. Mervyn Jemora was the high-point man with 27 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals, in 39 minutes of game time.

One notable scene there is the uncanny fourth-quarter rally by the team Polydozel. Wherein, their deadly Full court pressing shut down TGIF MANILA, resulting in 10 steals in the four minutes in the said quarter.

"You really can't say whether team Polydozel did very well on reading TGIF MANILA, or if TGIF MANILA really played sloppily in the last minutes of the ball game." says Anthony Suntay, PBA Analyst and sports commentator. "TGIF MANILA was leading the fourth quarter alone, all before the 4 minute 'Hell Court Press' displayed by team Polydozel"

Melencio Tanas had a 24 point, 7 rebound, and 3 steal performance, And the high tower duo of Simeon Tongson and Hernando Nellas stormed the game with a combined stat of 24 points, 19 rebounds, and 13 ridiculous steals.

"Those guys were fun to watch, they really did a good job on running the defense... they hustled unbelievably well." says the Polydozel coach.

All but Quirico Cuaresma managed to produce at least 2 steals against TGIF MANILA.

"They were really read, they totaled 31 steals at the second game of the finals, in their opponent's home court." says one Polydozel fan.

The third and final game will be held at PAL Arena on Saturday, and teams speculated that with the two teams' performance, it is very unlikely to produce a prediction.

"The first two games will be slated now. Back to square one. and judgment day will come on Saturday. These two teams will really raise hell over. I dunno which team will win." says one league analyst.

Ateneo Fans sold out Bleachers and Lower Tier seats of Peoples Center, Home of Celestial Fury

The Ateneo Jologs comes up strong in their last 2 games of the Premiere League Championship. Manager Aldo sponsored his fans by buying out literally all of the bleacher and lower tier seats of the home team. The arena of Celestial Fury was filled with Ateneo Jologs fans! "I gave the celestial fury the first game but I told my players to give their best and put their passion for basketball in the last two games. The boys are following my directions very well, and that's bearing fruit. they didnt let me down! This championship is dedicated for the fans of Ateneo Jologs! im glad for their support and I gave them what they deserve."

The peoples Center was everything but quiet. Fans chanting. shouting "MVP" for Ubaldo Nudalo everytime he steps in the freethrow. everytime his fellow teammate makes the first freethrow and missing the second, Ubaldo grabs his offensive rebound and sinking the tip in.

"We deserve to win it, we are deserved winners. It is just because we are the team that has done the most to win it, we are the underdogs between San Miguiel Beermen, Celestial Fury and Jubas Beasts. But I couldnt do this on my own. We played a good defense as a team! Erman stopped Caraballo, Ellis stopped Estolaga and I stopped Olandria and Cote. The fans helped us with the finals! Our fans are truly like a sixth man for the team. without them, we will surely not be here! I mean, we are not a strong team. we struggled during the earlier of regulation games." commented Ubaldo Nudalo.

It is currently in talks about the Ateneo Jologs team name will be changed before next season. "the board of Ateneo Jologs are talking about this and will most likely push through. I know Ateneo Jologs is a lousy team name especially some manager feels he is great being in Ateneo med school. Mr. RNA will surely be glad that his team Ateneo Conyos will get more pride. we are still open for team name suggestions from our beloved fans. as of now, we recieved a lot of both lousy and honorable team names!" laughed manager Aldo.
