In my opinion, you contributed the most in this thread, in terms of speaking as high profile manager/team that plays in one of the biggest BB countries' top league, while using motion and doing excellently.

To my amazement, nobody seems intrigued by your comments and your input, in order to ask you more about it. I hope that this is because all concerned parties in this thread, are currently studying your team...

My belief on the subject, is that BALANCE AND DYNAMICS are the keys for all tactics.

And yes, sometimes more is less and vice versa. As you said, you did fine with less than "expected" JS/JR for your SF, while at the same time your PF had more than "expected" ΙS. That is a fine example.

Adding another perspective to the mix- I actually think LI has been toned down a fairly decent amount this season. For my team, I have a PF/C who has excelled in the LI the past 5-6 seasons (getting MVP votes consistently), and his efficiency has dipped to the point this season where he's now the weak point in my offense.

I think the bigger issue is not that LI is so dominant, but that the outside tactics can be slowed down/stopped so easily, especially at the upper levels. I have three excellent perimeter defenders that I know can swallow up any opponent's outside shooters in M2M, let alone if I need to run a 3-2. It's been the case for nearly any good team over many seasons now that running motion or RnG simply isn't effective, especially at the NT or B3 level. There are exceptions for sure, but LI is the far safer (and less expensive) outlet.

Every NT have players like that (or better players), why do we see then 90% or more NT games LI - m2m?
Why every serious NT play LI-m2m?

Why don't you buy players like that and play Motion when it is good? Why do you play LI?

On the other hand, honestly, how many people are playing at the B3/NT level? The fact that it is broken at that level at this time aside, once you get out of that rarefied air there are plenty of other alternatives that can be just as effective if done well (and as SM's history indicates, it's not even impossible in a solid I league in one of the big BB nations to be successful with an outside offense, even without the shotblocking changes). The problem is that too many people see people who have figured out how to exploit LI maximally at the top and then are told that it's the only option at all levels of the game, which is patent bullcrap.

As far as SB changes not working, well freaking duh, they announced the changes last season, and so your guys at the B3 level couldn't even test out the effects of these changes since these players were not being trained before for the most part. It would be like saying that beginning next season, players with 18 JR and 15 SB will shoot amazing percentages from three point because of their range and jumping ability (SB), and then halfway through next season saying it doesn't work - because nobody will have those skills. Whether this SB change ends up making any real impact or not, of course, is debatable, and it's probably likely to be more of a placebo than a real shift in any case, but it's way too early to come to any conclusions since the data is just too sparse.

While I agree with you in principal, I think a lot of it has to do with the way BB players have been trained for the first 23 seasons. Very few inside defenders currently have high SB as users have only started to train it. We need to fast forward a couple of seasons and start seeing if teams with high SB can defend LI effectively. Those teams could find themselves well ahead of the curve.

In Holland's DBA we have lotds of teams that switch their offense around based on their opponent. Also some mainly outside focussed teams and 2-3 and 3-2 zone defenses to anticipate on some of these offenses. 2-3 zone doesn't always work against LI but under the right circumstances it can be much better than MTM.

So for me I see some changes in the game and it's not a 90% LI thing in our top division.

As the SB skills in our division will grow (and they will) and some more good outside players get bought I expect the balance to shift further away from just the inside offenses.

I was just joking but following the leader has been going for the past several seasons in this game. Buy great team, run LI/M2M, win B3. B3 and NT is the premier competition in this game, that's what everyone should care about. I appreciate Silverbacks efforts but in the end his team always loses in the knockouts to some typical LI monster.

I like to think of it like The Force. LI is the dark side, anything else is the light. There may be a 'simpler' route to power with LI, but (mostly, after the new changes) the dark and light are equal. Slowly and surely I'm being tempted towards the light....

Plus they have a couple cup wins as well. If anything, the fact that SM has won anything without the benefit of specialty outside based players is pretty amazing. I would expect at outside based team to really struggle cause you pretty much have to build every player on your team since the TL is sorely lacking good options. This can't be overstated enough. It can take a good specialty cross-trained player until their 26yo+ to be complete, then you have to go build everything else!

Outside built teams are getting more focus from BB, many top managers are looking this way. If you can start building the players now there will be a growing market of teams doing the same. Very interested in seeing the battle of LI vs RNG/Motion in 5+ seasons.

True, that is an amazing accomplishment but we need more guys like SM to do things in the B3 to restore balance to this game.
