Perhaps there is an overlap? So starter can be 2 balls or 3 balls. And allstar can be 3 balls or 4 balls. And MVP can be 4 balls or 5 balls.
Just a thought.


I have seen no evidence of this, in fact I have seen more the other way. I was just throwing it out there.

To me, the possibility of different rounding is perhaps the most likely explanation. Either that, or the classes are fixed and maybe just a bit more work needs to be done to tweak the FAQ.

So you are saying that you've seen players with two ball potential come out as starters, right? I'm just trying to get some confirmation.


I am not 100% sure but I am pretty sure. I guess just get some more data from this draft and we will see.

I know you've been working on your skill cap testing model but I'm still not convinced there's sub-levels of potential.


I am 99.9% convinced that they exist from my now 70+ data points. And if you remember, I was very vocally against sub-levels.


I don't believe for a second that a player with four ball potential ended up being an all-star. Seems to me like it was just a user who thought he had 4 balls instead of 3.

What in your data suggests there are sublevels?
Is it possible that the sublevels in skills is causing you to think that there are sublevels in potential?

The fact that many players with the same potential cap at very different levels. I can't go too much into detail on this without revealing specific skills, but hopefully with more data I can show this to everyone more conclusively.

No, I am talking about gaps that are more signficant than that. I wish I could say more so you would be as convinced as me but hopefully that will come with time.

Just wondering, but surely revealing skills and potential without revealing height, age or name, isn't breaching anyone's confidence.
You could provide 2 examples of skills of the same potential where both players are capped. There is no way to know who the player is so you are not breaching anyone's confidence or trust.

I am sure you would need more than 2 examples (I did). Because, for example, on a guard: you may wonder if 3 levels of rebounding is the difference. Or on a C: you may wonder if 6 levels of handling was the difference. I think, it is only when you start to see all the data that you start to become more convinced.

Anyhow, last time I talk about my research here, it is time to get back on topic. But...

At this time, I will not be sharing the data with anyone. I understand there is a possibility to create a file where no one could figure which player belongs to who (although I would go further than you, taking off players with rare potential/skill mixes and maybe even taking off all the U21/NT players)... But someone still might have the "perceived" notion that I leaked their data. And in the data collection world, perceptions matter as much as facts.
