There is indeed no need for a spectacular rise in block shots, overall it may remain the same. But what is wrong in my opinion it is the distribution.
Players with bad shotblocking (timing/technique/reaction time) should make a lot less blocks, and even get a foul on some attempts to block. This should affect especially the PF/C, because they have more blocking attempts in help defense.
The high skilled shotblock players should make the most blocks and are less likely to make a foul. They know when to try and when not, better timing etc.
Offcourse this also depends on the opposing players, but according to the reactions of multiple players the shotblocking skill has not the value an independent stat should have.
