Many teams played against us (Slovenia) some kind of 2-3 defense in this year's Eurobasket in Lithuania. We had terrible off. flow and 3FG%. We had good inside attack, but for some reason our guards weren't able to get many passes to our bigs. So 2-3 zone was very effective against us, and primarily was being played against us by weaker teams.
Most of the times, we were able to find an open shooter against such defense, but our shooters were just terrible. One month or so later, our first PG Lakovič plays 33 min for Galatasary, his new team, and shoots 3s 6-for-8. Go figure...
Anyway, what I wanted to stress out was 2-3 is probably good only against imbalanced teams who have very strong bigs and very weak outside players, take a look at this game:
(39008682). Here, Torunskie Anioly would arguably win also with 2-3 since Tehran's guards underperformed.
But what happens when opponent's C and PF are much much better than yours, while their outside players can match yours? I guess you're screwed because even 2-3 probably can't help you (maybe you could try 3-2 or even FCP in that case to stop their guards from getting the ball inside
)
