We had two fantastic games last night.

The Orchestra went down big in the first half after Warroad's normal. Slowly but surely, however they clawed their way back and saved the home win with a buzzerbeater by Stevens. Warroad had the lead from 10:30 in the first quarter until two seconds to go in the game. That one hurts (if you're them), or feels great if you're the Orchestra!

Elsewhere Deronimo had enough juice to send the game against High Point Heroes to overtime, but, once in overtime, they were pummeled by HPH. Piskin's fouling out played a role in the defeat. Forsman was heroic in his team's defeat with an efficient 45 pts, while HPH spread out the scoring, with six players in double digits. Side rant: isn't it annoying that teams with spread scoring are at a huge disadvantage when it comes to all star selections? I wouldn't care, but this does have merch implications.

With Allen down (and apparently the object of trade chatter), plus a difficult cup game coming up, Splash Gang nonetheless held serve against Rhino's Rage -- making it two consecutive losses for RR, who is in danger of sliding down in the the pack of mediocrity.

Southpaw army folded against Visionaries, as did Flashover against Big Gulp.

White Walkers drubs Hipsterbears. Despite the slightly superior overall ratings, the current GE is too favorable to outside offenses over even a quality LI. Add in the "marvelous(low)" rating in perimeter defense and you get a game with no story.
That said, EBW's Low Post was a thing of beauty in their home drubbing of Beware of Dogs.

All of these drubbings are very helpful and welcome for my team. We got a weird, unhelpful schedule where it doesn't even seem possible that the home games and the away games will end up being even. But the one gift we got was an away game at Sofuegg. There will be more schedule weirdness* but we'll take this for now.

* in our last eight games, we play two home, then three out of four games away, then we end with two more at home.

Good luck to B3ers, and BBMers.

Only two games of note today. ExplosiveBubbleWrap powered through with remarkable efficiency with their Push the Ball offense. It’s rare to see a team shoot over 50 FG%. Especially remarkable since they played 42 minutes of their shot blocker, Mr. Pantalones.

It’s a consequential loss for Hipsterbears — a really good team that in this stacked conference finds itself contemplating the prospect of auto-relegation.

The game was very much an alternating-current affair, with EBW rushing to a lead after one, giving it up in the second, and then finally building a lead they wouldn’t relinquish in the third.

Also consequential was our loss against the Orchestra. We make it a point to protect the home court. In this particular week, there is a chance that Splash Gang, decimated by injury, could have been an easier target. But defend the home court also has diagnostic value. If you start losing a bunch of home games, it’s time to let go of the rope and tank the rest of the season. In this particular game, we were down a player since we sold Jackson and have not replaced him, so there was a danger that we might go down. And go down we did.

The Orchestra had a 15 point lead before we could even breathe, and we couldn’t score until the game opened up a bit in the second half. After a strong third quarter, we managed to get the game into single the high single digits, but never beyond that.

The game itself was a bit of a rock fight. Although the Orchestra couldn’t miss early on, they saw our players demonstrate bad shooting and brought a bunch of it into the second half.

One thing you can rely on from the Orcs is a least some bad shooting! Ha! The good shooting was more surprising to me!

Tough season, I consistently promote without much of a plan after being excited to get out of D2. At this point just hoping to demote to II.2 so I can shoot for a title in all 4 divisions, but maybe have to go down to III to rebuild some money. I've been able to save this season while trying but a 3 week injury last night was the nail in the coffin. At least I got 2-3 wins closer to the exclusive 100 club... right?

It is almost Halloween, and so the Hipsterbears put up their Halloween act, and come back from the almost dead. Their away win @ Big Gulp that messes up Big Gulp's season and mine. Štefan could not be denied blowing through 127 pp100 and exploding for 27 massive points. Hard to say what Big Gulp could have done different. I'd say Aboki's 8-23 was a bit unlucky given the pp100, but, you know, there is history there. They did TIE vs. the away normal, but hard to say that's a mistake without thinking about their season as a whole, which I don't have time to do.

But the Hipsterbears show of mental strength was marred by the terrible news of another long term injury, this time to their long-time SF Lin-Fat. This one will hurt.

On the topic of costly home normals, the Orchestra followed up their away normal at my arena, with a home TIE. End result, they still end the week with 1 win, they just messed up my BB-life a bit more. Flashover had the mental strength to go 1-3-1 (I was too chicken), and that's the right defense here. They also had their own epic performance from Sikes. In G's honor's I run it through his match analyzer, and it's a beauty:

Kristofer Sikes: 3-5 (2-2) Jumpers... 1-4 (5-5) Drives... 1-2 (4-7) Inside... 0-3 (0-0) Threes

So other than some hot potato threes, the guy could not be stopped.

I'd hoped for Visionaries' run to end, when I saw that EBW was challenging them. EBW could probably have won the game, but it ended up as the third home TIE vs. away normal game of the week that went to the away normal. Kang did Kang things, just in time for the Allstar voters to see. (Just kidding, they will do something stupid like give the starting spot to Vilja.)

I think it's the first time this season I've been trailing in the 4th? I knew it was gonna be a tough one with my roster moves and Cup juggling.

I'm hoping to get a bunch of all-stars but I'm pretty sure it's very counting-stats based so who knows. A funny consequence of lots of one-sided games is ridiculously high ratings for my best players, but very few "league top 10" in categories that matter.

Kang: #1 USA Rating, #7 World.
Taylor: #2 USA Rating, #8 World.
Yang: #3 USA Rating, #38 World. Needs some more stamina pops. My only player on the league boards at #5 for assists per game
Ott: #6 USA Rating, #148 World. and this guy isn't really very good!
Henderson: #18 USA Rating, #678 World. and I bought an upgrade for him since obviously that gap was too big
