You only get 50k per cup game (in early stages). The sales tax for reselling the player you bought is going to cost you at least 50k. So while you might make it further in the cup, you are losing money every cup game instead of winning money.
Also every player you sell will hurt merchandise, and also will lower sales tax for sales later on if you sell too many players.

I'd lose a bit of money because of sales tax

you ain't the only one, who like this strategie thats why those player are often less expensiv at the end of the week. So you would loose some extra money there.

Depending on your target in the league you could maybe try it with a ct, and get the enthusiam back in the league.

Or he could forfeit the cup on purpose, concentrate on building a stronger team, and then he can win the cup normally :P

you could still do that with my strategie, and i believe that should be the target for the most teams here anyway.

But sometimes i advise new team to concentrate on cups at the beginning, because it have less impact if you get 3 or 4th placed, and maybe it has even advantages when you don't get the 5th placed team - so that strategy depens lot on the team and the league.

There are only 3 other good teams in my league, so I'm guaranteed a playoff spot either way. I think the top 2 teams are slightly better than mine ATM so I don't think I'd get home court advantage in the playoffs though.

Dont you pay player's salary when buying him? I am not sure if it works this way (sorry, wasnt in a tranfer list for a looong time) , but that's how it is with staff

I think you're right about that, which would be another disadvantage.

That is not the case. When you buy a player you simply pay the signing bonus. If you fire the player before the salary update or sell the player before the salary update you don't have to pay the salary.

With staff, when you hire a new staff member you have to pay the signing bonus PLUS the OLD staff members salary as severence.

I think everyones forgetting he only has $780k at his disposal... I can't imagine you will even be able to buy 1 capable player if you come across a Division 3 or better team...

Enjoy the scrimmages and use the opportunity to train difficult skills like PA for one of your big men. (just an example)

excellent example, where CT'ing in the cup is really useful :) Go a bit kamikaze in the cup(not with transfer i doubt to that this strategy works at this point as many other here).
