I have a guard that has tremendous driving and awful IS i have played him at both SF and SG and he cant make an inside shot to save his life. He takes quite a few because of the driving but he rarely connects. He does draw a couple fouls here and there so i guess there is some upside haha.

I played LI in my last game. This is what the shot distribution was:
C - 22 attempts
PF - 25 attempts
SF - 20 attempts
SG - 11 attempts
PG - 15 attempts
This is just one game, but it clearly shows the offense is mainly carried out by C and PF, and to some extent SF.
Also worth mentioning is that a lot of my guards shot attempts were inside shots (lay ups and dunks). So it helps if your guards have high IS.

Also just a general comment about these tactics and your players.

Ive played low-post for the last few seasons, where my C and PF were the 'best' players in my team. Recently i acquired two excellent guards, who are now the best players in my team. This has changed the ratio of shots and the way that the low-post offence works.

So my point being, that, if you have awesome guards, and mediocre C/PF and you play low post, you may find that your guards will still take more shots, outside and inside.

In other words, the offence that you set, doesnt neccassarily force the game engine to use those players. If those players involved in that offence are crapola, then the game engine will still try to find the best shot, through other players. It also suggests, that maybe you shouldnt be using that offence!

Works both ways too.

Sometimes the standard of opposition improves and the big men you come against are better, so it's harder for your bigs to make a shot over them, so the defer back to the guards who are forced to take last second 'hero' shots.

Also, the guard talent could also be better, so the guards have a tough time passing inside... so they jack it up instead..

So very true, i saw that in my last league game, where i usedf low post. So my point gaurd who has strong passing, had to take unecessary three point shots. If you have strong passing or higher and you use look inside or low post, and if your opponents big men don't have better inside def than your big men's inside scoring. Then your strongest passers should get plenty of assists.

I think that if your bigs are outmached they take tough inside shots, fadeaways, contested jumpers and miss them.

If your ball movement is bad and the oposing team has very good outside defence, you take contested 3s.

try balanced tactics if your guys have good jump shot but not so good range. Might be the best choice for you, particularly if your bigs aren't that strong.

So which do you think would be better? Base offense, patient, or push the ball?

My PGs and back-up SG have good JS but not so good JR. My starting SG and SFs have good JS and strong-prominent JR. And I dont really consider my C and PF a huge threat down low but they have alright inside shot and my PFs have good JS.
