So if the ball is going to an inside player on inside focus its better to play a neutral defense than one that focuses on the inside player? Seems a bit dodgy

When the ball is going to an inside player in an inside offense, an inside GDP is better. An inside focus would be trying to work the ball around so you can pass it inside. Isolation is saying instead just throw the ball to the guy and get out of his way - it's not working to get the ball inside, outside, or upside down.

Simply put

Inside isolation - Isolation for your inside player(s)
Outside isolation - Isolation for your outside player(s)

its a bit like playing patient offense, but specifying which player you want to be focus of the patient offense. an inside player, or outside player.

You may notice that when you play these offenses, the player doesn't actually always shoot lots of inside/outside. I know when ive played Outside Iso, it picks a guard, and a lot of the time, that guard does a whole heap of driving, and shoots inside shots. (because he is best in that game at creating an inside shot).
So even though ive selected Outside Isloation, the number of outside shots is less than 'normal', and more inside shots are taken.
so yer, hope that helps.
