People complained about managers not putting any actual skill or thought into setting lineups.
They just selected some players and didn't have to think about how they were going to play or be used. A very boring and lazy way of doing it.

And some people, especially at higher levels, did it because the substitution pattern was better, and the game engine allowed you to use players that could play multiple positions to actually play more than one position. It also made teams more difficult to defend as you couldn't be sure who was going to play where, and as such was less predictable and more realistic. Boring indeed!

I find your dismissal of other opinions lazy.

Complete removal would only make sense in the context of a pretty comprehensive overhaul of the substitution patterns.

OR bring back the empty lineup and lower the minute amount needed for training. THAT would make an awesome game.

There's no "or" to be made. Empty line-ups encourage lazy play and a game that would fall very short of awesome. There's no reason to conclude that this is the only viable way to make more flexible management of game time possible.

100% agree with the statement.

now a manager has to understand tactics & train correctly to make his team stronger. with that empty line up feature, it's just brainless selecting your best 12 players and letting the GE get the best possible result (also less likely to get an upset that way)

Yet that was the only way to get sensible substitution patterns, where you might see all round players (surely all NT players should be made this way) could play multiple positions. There's no way to do that with the settings we have now. Its not the blank that's brainless, its everything else.

Since everyone, including GMs (a shame that they did not give themselves any kind of warning...) contributed to the off-topic in this thread, I will make an ON-TOPIC contribution.

Instead of removing Garbage Time the GE should be changed so that both benches are emptied, like it happens in real life. This will sort a lot of issues, including the Point Differential issue someone (correctly) mentioned.

Removing Garbage Time only makes sense if we get better substitution patterns or the GS calculation is amended. I very much doubt either of this changes are going to happen anytime soon.
