But seriously, I don't see the necessity in any rating scheme. Every scheme is flawed.

Agreed in this form of the system (or the old one for that matter).

I would enjoy a rating/referring system that helps me to find useful posts, though. As a GM I have to bear a lot of noise to remove some of it (i.e., moderate the forums), but as a regular user I would like to skip most of that and concentrate on the good discussions. The search functionality can be improved of course, but I'm sure the rating system could also be further developed to achieve this goal. In its current form, it doesn't work at all. You just see that some people have many votes and some have none. As much as some don't like it, there needs to be some sort of negative voting implemented so that you can filter stuff. Now the negative votes could even be completely invisible to other users. I would think that posts that generate many positive votes and pretty much zero negative votes are generally valuable (or in many cases merely good jokes). Posts that generate both are not necessarily any more useful than ones that get no votes.

There are no bookmarks for forum posts and bookmarks are a Supporter feature at the moment anyway. That sort of system would be pretty useful for referring to god threads and posts. Whenever there are many bookmarks to a post overall or many bookmarks to a recent post, they are probably something worth reading. Combine a feature like that to the post rating scheme and it's suddenly useful.

If the negative voting is implemented again, perhaps count them for voting user aswell and it should not be anonymous. If you think the post is wrong, your name should be seen to everyone. Perhaps that only people who have responded in the thread can vote negatively. How many of the current fanboys would rate posts negatively if they get made? If the negative votes get counted for the voting user, we can all see the haters.

After reading 50posts in this thread today(most of them were about nothing) I've started missing the old system.. The old system stopped not only useful messages but also lots of unnecessary and sometimes stupid posts..

I'm really fine with this new rating system. I think it'll help the atmosphere on the forum getting better and better. As we play at BuzzerBeater to entertain ourselves, this system will only turn things into positive.

I don't think the negative votes need to be visible at all, or perhaps only to the voter so they know they need not vote again. :-) Basically, if the voting is used for something constructive such as recommending threads and individual posts, we need a mechanism to correct other people's dumb voting. Currently we actually have the "priority" functionality for threads (which is pretty much totally useless). What I'm saying is the post rating system could evolve into a community driven thread-and-post priority/recommendation system. The current system is IMO a weaker basis for something like that than the old system.

As long as the voting is just a popularity contest side show, I'm fine with having only positive votes. It creates a more positive atmosphere if nothing else.

I think that it is ridiculous that anyone would stop posting in the forums just because of some silly voting system... I mean come on guys what does it change???? NOTHING If a post got removed because it wasn't rated high enough then people may put more thought into what the type in here!!

All I ask for is a system where you can easily find the correct answer to your question... or if there is more than one way to do it then show me... I dont want to have to sift through 500 posts to get only 3 valid points of view.

So maybe instead of rating a post we should focus more on the relevance of the post.. And for thos that care about being liked in the forums we could rate both.. tick one box if it is relevant to the topic and then another box to tick if you liked the post

Seriously, the old system was like ......
Some random people was like hanging out on the forums and gave 1 ball to everyone.
So I defently like the new system, but I agree, there should be a negativ button to, but theres come the problem, again, people will hang out on the forum and press the negative button to every post people make :/ (I'm not saying everyone does this) :D
