I'm going to back away from the discussion mostly because I really do think it's time to go ahead and catalog some of the matches I've had to try to have something more than just having watched a couple hundred games in the viewer while they were happening and being various stages of irritated during them. ;)
I think what you're saying about the passing makes sense, but my gut feeling is that it's not what happens - for outside shooting, at least. Passing down low in inside offenses is the bomb, but for jumpers and threes, it's never seemed to make much of a positive difference. I also had a pretty high passing PG with my pre-rebuild Princeton lineup where most of the data will come from, along with a team that no real deficiencies in passing in the lineup.
And for my friend from Germany, I suppose this is why I wanted to devote even more time to JR for Schur (in between feeding him cars that is). He's almost shooting worse from three than from two, which is simply unacceptable! ;) He was also the weak offensive link in my fun little PL game, where I went with a 5-guard Princeton and had 86 JR on the court against a mediocre perimeter defense.
