Well all good advice, so I am going to go a different route.

1st - you happen to be in one of the hardest DIII leagues I have ever seen.
2nd - I would think about selling everyone and starting over unless you savage something out of your MVP big men.
3rd - You're vision to win D4 was good but that's about as far as your chapter went. Think D2 or D1 when you build again so if you promote you can hang in that league and prosper.
4th - Get a good draft pick to help you out or for $$$.
4th - Arena enuff said.

Thanks to all of you for your replies and help so far. I know no one wants to give away their ultimate secrets on how to win it all, but I still feel like I am missing some of the basics. So I have three questions.

First, I know that the goal is to build a D1-2 monster, and that it is going to take some bank. I also see that I need to build my arena and make some roster cuts. But there's more to making money in this game than that. As I think about allowing my team to relegate or fighting it tooth and nail, is it easier to make money in D3 or D4?

Second, I have no delusions of making the playoffs this season. My only hope is to get out of last place and win the relegation game. To do that, I need to pick up one, maybe two hired guns. On average, how much should I expect to pay for such a player who could be a competative starter in this division?

Third, if I am going to relegate and turn my team into a money making machine, then there's something I have to know. How does one make a profit on the transfer market? I know it has to do with buying low, training them and selling high, but that high resale price has to be higher than the original buying price and the cost of weekly salary while training him, otherwise you don't make a profit. X-(Y+Z)= profit or loss.

First, I know of no secret to making money in this game on the transfer wire or otherwise. My teams rarely make money because I like to spend it on player salaries to help me win/stay competitive. I know other teams are rich as hell but mine is not, my success has come from building up my arena and training my own players. I never had the time to scour the transfer list to look for bargains.
Your arena will make more money in higher leagues as long as you remain competitive. So there is the rub. To remain competitive you need more expensive players. As soon as you advance you must raise ticket prices at the next level.

Well being competitive combined with quality of opponent seems to be in my view a driving factor. But my gate receipts vary so wildly and on a whim that it is hard to tell what will happen particularly on the bleachers. Case in point are my last two home dates . I drew over 11k against masters coming in after back to back wins. For CC I only drew 8387 coming in off back to back losses. One thing I noticed from last season, do not change pricing too often. Having the ability to set per game seems nice but doing so I think can cause confusion in the fan base.

in a battle between teams at the top the pistons will try to continue to pull away while round 2 tries to recover from the shocking loss to the Generals on Tuesday night.

Speaking of which the Generals get what looks to be the free pass against the minimalist daggers. But appearances are deceiving because even though the roster only has six players all six can play and a addition or two could easily lead to this team not just leaving the cellar but to being a spur in the saddle of their relegation opponent. So if it plays out that way, Dont forget who told ya.

The bunnies will seek to continue their slow climb against still struggling spike.

Cal looks to hold their position in the two hole against a masters squad trying to avoid slipping back down the chute.

Wadsworth will be looking for a strong road effort keep themselves in contention while stormz is settling in for a eventual relegation referendum.

The spiders will try to make their long climb out the water spout but CC is going to do their best to bring the reign and wash the spiders out.

And the kitties will try to keep pace at the top of club red while the nation seeks to continue to see if they can contour up enough to survive the overall campaign.

Our collective cup runneth is over, we'll look back to see how it played out. Massive action on the transfer wire, we will break down who wants to do what. And Sybill of course will gaze into her crystal ball. As usual we will have it all as its a summer to fall edition of BB2Night

It's hard for me to tell a team to give up especially when you seem to have a lot of fight in you.

1st - Easier to make money in D3 or D4? My opinion you make money the same way in either divisions you just make more money as you increase in division i.e. Merchandise, TV, and $ to charge per seat.

2nd - Pay for a player? Tricky, You pay as low as you can to get the best value player. Go back and look at the transfers for teams to get an idea of what they paid.

3rd - How does one make a profit? I am kinda like Joe D, I might buy a player low, train then sell high. But, I spend most of my money on players and trainers to make a profit. Lake or Round 2 seemed to have endless cash I would defer to them.

BTW, you have to win to make money at the arena - no fan wants to buy tickets to see a team lose all the time. Don't disregard your fan survey.

I tried a new strategy tonight and got WHOOPED! LOL.....I had never used outside isolation....wanted to see how my team would do with it.....needless to say, I won't do that again. I figured I wasn't gonna beat Deronimo at his place so experiment a little.

Isolations have only gotten me crushed, but thanks lol.

Spiders - one other financial item you should check on - staff salaries. They go up each week for each staff member, and if you forget to check on them every once in a while, you may be spending a lot more money than you need to.
Case in point, my kitties at the beginning of this season. I had bought all new staff about two seasons ago, and was losing money at the start of this season. Realize the guy that I had picked up at $14k a week (or whatever it was) had now basically doubled his salary. Fired the lot of them, bought new guys (of same ability level, but lower salaries) saving myself approx $30k a week.

Check to see if you are spending more than you need to.

Ya, I figured it might occur in a bad way. I wanted to see what effect it would have on my players since I've never actually played that tactic.....man, that was brutal! LOL
