On the other hand, I'm not quite sure how any experienced user could prefer the short menu over the long one.

For me, anyways, I've used it so long it's second nature now.

Long menu!

Count me as part of the vast majority!

I think I wrote up a vast opinion on the menu issue somewhere in the first thread of comments to the new site. To the BB developers' credit, they heard that many people liked the long menu and made sure to keep it, and to allow this to be saved as a preference so that we don't have to click on the Long menu every time we log in.

And not that I think this will change things, but I agree with the notion that the Long Menu should probably be the default so that new users can see all of the pages they can go to in one shot, and that it really does take an experienced user to navigate the short menu since that who already knows what pages they want to navigate to even though the page link doesn't show up on the short menu. But I respect everyone's opinion on this.

Don't ask what sort of Chunks they are, you probably don't want to know. Blowing Chunks since Season 4!

I prefer the long menu as well. I have tried both but the long menu in my opinion is easier to navigate.

I love both menus equally. I open two pages and have one with the long, cascading menu full of every place I want to go at a single click, saving me valuable fractions of seconds in my regimented 21st century life and one with the concise austere beauty of the short menu with its compartmentalized logic guiding my hand in this all-too-cluttered world.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

I use long menu.

Short menu + 5 custome links would be awesome (Transfers, Players, Bids, Schedule, Economy)

i can settle this debate quite easily.

29K users have the long menu by default
20K users have the short menu by default

however when you look at users who signed up in the last 3 months, its

10K for the short menu
5K for the long menu

There is a lot of possible interpretations of this data, but I think the most conservative one is that the community is split on the subject, with older users tending to favor the long menu, and newer users favoring the shorter menu. I'll leave you all to debate why this is and what it says about our deeper human nature.

Thanks for the data Forrest.

I believe most of the users use tab browsing, so having all the links in a single menu helps a lot.

A normal situation, sending the line up for the next match. I generally (not always) open the "Set your line up", "Overview", "Roster", "Training" and "Forum" jejeje. So I can check the minutes played, the game shape, perhaps change the training, etc etc.

Another one, buying a new player. Transfers List, Bids, Forum, Roster. Since I already offered for a center, im just looking for another one in case I dont win the bid, Im checking my roster to see who is going to go once the new payer arrives and finally checking the Forum for the NT team requirements :P

With the new menu doing this actiosn would take a lot of clicks, but having customs links would help a loty to improve the new short menu. New comers are still trying to lear how to manage their team so they normally dont have a lot of things going on, but experienced users are totally different and of course if you add that often people dont like changes, well the end result is a split.

--------------------------------------------------

So I strongly suggest that you consider the customs links for the short menu. Everyone has its own needs, so you have the opportunity to make a lot of people happy and cut down the long menu :P

Imagine something like this:

* User A (NT manager for a foreign country): He needs to stay in constant communication, and also look for new talent; he will have Ghana Forum, NT Rankings, Trasnfer List (to scout players) in his customs links

* User B (U21 prospects trainer): He needs to train 5 SG/PG every week and train them in different skills; he will have Weekly Satst, Training, Roster un his customs links

* User C (making a users behaviour study): Study for online users, in order to know the peak hours to sell his players; he will have Community, Forum, Transfer List on his customs links

* User D (forum reporter for the B3 and WCs): Often reports on the global the results, preview and upcoming events; he will have Global English, World (overview), NT rankings, BB's Best on his customs links

* User E (flagchaser): Missign only 2 flags; so she will have Scrimmages, World, Senegal and Bookmarks on her customs links

Etc etc the posibilities are endless
