Very nice win for my Lions this week against NB Nasties. The enthusiasm advantage turned into overkill, but would have been necessary if we didn't injure the SG and some rested starters due to the cup. There are really only 2 teams we can't hang with and that is just fine as we aren't quite ready for DII. In fact, we have the lowest salary in the league after Johns Creek's recent purchase.

Unfortunately for me, it seems that all my conference mates had nice games as well. The only lost games were expected. Lions are holding tough to a playoff spot, but the hold is tenuous with 3 teams only 3 games behind. I think we could win a relegation series if pushed to that, though, so I'm not getting too worked up.

As the season progresses, it seems that Rik Smits and Deronimo are the clear favorites for title contention. However, neither is unbeatable and there may be piles of money waiting to be spent by contenders yet.

First of all, yes, a very nice win for you and one that I appreciated highly. With the new promotion spaces opening up, I think finishing first in the conference is that much more important since I don't think you can make it out in the bonus promotion if you're not first in your conference.

On your second paragraph, if a loss by Cal to me was expected, you're either far more prescient than I am or you're a horrible judge of talent that just got lucky. ;) I went into the game thinking I had a decent chance of winning, mind you, but expecting to beat a team like that on the road is pretty ambitious - heck, I shifted training this week because I didn't think I had a chance at anything less than full strength.

I'd want to argue that I'm not one of the favorites for contention but I guess at some point you are what your record says you are. I am fortunate that I've already had my road games against NB and tetra, plus Yeet as well, so my final third schedule is much more manageable than the first third. Getting by Cal on the road was huge, but of course the road game with Deronimo is the next major hurdle. And considering I've never won there except in scrimmages or games he was tanking, that's not an easy challenge at all. Thankfully I get your team in my stadium, so I don't quite have all four of the team Blue playoff teams as road games.

I think more than anything, I'm happy that my team actually shot almost as many threes as twos on Saturday.

Yeah, I just let my inner Lou Holtz run wild sometimes.

I'd rather win by winning, too. The attendance boost is primo, but I can't put off training more salary-assploding stuff on my guys much longer, at least not if I plan on getting some big men built to play beside them before they're too old to do what I need them to do. I think the extra income from II, even boostless, might be needed sooner than later for me.

Doctorates? Have you seen how tough those professors are? We don't have a chance at a doctorate or a Masters, I'm just hoping that they don't test us before letting us in the cafeteria or we'll starve to death.

I can't really translate the above into the mushmouth accent he speaks with, unfortunately.

Of course if you are gonna imitate Granny Holtz you will need to take the Jets job and have Namath run the veer option. (yes that actually happened). I actually go into Sylvester the cat mode when it comes to TALKING like Holtz as he has always had a little bit of a lisp. And he always looked like a little old lady even when he was the coach at NC State back in the early 70's even though back then he had pretty long hair.

in regards to the fates and fortunes of the furious AKA the league, at the top the clogs and VPI AKA Deronimo are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-BX7sxAnak there is a new tune being sung among the next five teams,

Had one of those soul-destroying beatdowns tonight. Went with my 3rd team while the other guy played his 1st. Results were predictable.

I can kind of understand why he did what he did. He sacrificed a league game to make sure that he won the cup game. And he was probably committed to it minutes-wise because of that. But it just reinforces how dumb the training is in this game. I've played a lot of manager games and this is the only one with this type of requirement. Only thing I'm a little ticked about is one of my trainees fouled out after 16 minutes. Which I guess happens when a 75k guy goes up against a 2K guy.

Several years ago, I rage quit over a cup game just like this. I don't really care that much now. But it's results like this that drive new players away. I don't reckon anything will ever be done about it. But getting beat by nearly 100 points is just stupid.

Solid addition to the league playlist, hopefully my good luck with team health will continue.

Grats to the Goon Squad on a big win. If you can't beat em, beat em up. No coincidence the thug that knocked my best defender out of the game goes off after that. This game ...
