Cup Watch

Round 1 in season 22's cup would be easy to most SBBL teams, going up against bots. However 3 teams face off against human players, and 2 SBBL members will be facing each other.

Country ranked 13 SG Young Guns, newly promoted to SBBL, will be taking on rising big man Wong Jie Chun and his ranked 37 Singapore Slingerz. SG Young Gun's arsenal of big men, Carlos Secco, Józef Peron, Pedro Espino and Éric Pinault will be put to the test against Singapore Slingerz 2 key players, Wong Jie Chun(16.5ppg, 16.5rpg, 5.0apg) and Sergio Aranguren(17.5 ppg, 17.5rpg, 8.5apg) who accounts for 60% of their team rebounds (56.5rpg) and 30% of their team's assists (36.0apg). Besides the big men battling down at the low post, watch for SG Young Guns ageless wonder Valerio Ressa going up against Taiwanese G Lin Mau Pin. Valerio Ressa might not have all the speed and flashes but definitely has the experience and craftiness to beat Lin. If Singapore Slingerz want to stand a chance against SG Young Guns their players other than Wong Jie Chun, Sergio Aranguren and Lin Mau Pin will have to step up and play great baskbetball because 100% plus chop plus guarantee SG Young Guns will focus their defence on Singerz's big 3. SG Young Guns has the advantage here but if Slingerz players steps up and plays extremely well despite the tight SG Young Gun's defence it could be a close one.

The league II.1 curse somehow still lingers a little here in SBBL where same league teams face off against each other early in the cup. Ranked 11 Flyer Sonic will square off, once again, against ranked 5 SaungHninPwint (SHP). These 2 teams have faced each other numerous times both in league II.1 and SBBL and even had a match just 2 days ago where Flyer Sonic came out on top. 6th year C Li Po Chu lead everyone with 29pts, 10 rebs and 4asts in that game. Of cause fans will still be treated to the high level play of the twin towers Pei Jian Long (PJL), Li An Wen (LAW) and national team G Ang Kok Loong. SHP still has scoring machine Liad Saglovic around. He's been pretty quiet so far in the start of the season but SHP might just be resting him up early for the long gruelling season + cup games. If Saglovic is let loose in this cup game Loong can only do his best to slow him down and force bad shot selection, which isn't that many for such a potent scorer. Flyer Sonic will need to replicate the formula that worked in the league game on tues, tough physical defence, controlling the boards and maybe a spark off the bench. SHP will need G Kostas Piomenos to find cracks in the Sonic defence, José Manuel Cejudo-Alcántara's long arms to lean on as defence plus to keep the twin towers away from the boards and Liad Saglovic to get himself hot and pour in points. If u're stuck at home tonight, nothing to do, wanting to watch a BB game, tune in to this one. It will be exciting.

Week 1 local player of the week

Wang Xiangjia- Singapore showstopper
Wang Xiangjia from Singapore showstopper. Now at his prime age, he show no stopping on whatever he does. This rebounding skill is like getting better and better. Just on the second game hes already make his season high of 30 pts. Now that his team has go to 0-2, he is doing all he could to make sure his team is competitive enough to stay on the top.

special mention: new kid on the rise
Li Jin Yew -wonder boys
The number 1 pick from wonder boys. Once hearing that he will be joining this team, they know that SBBL dream is near. One of the fastest growing big man in Singapore on his 3rd year already having a 65k salary. His ability in rebounding shooting make this young kids a dangerous weapon for the opponent. Not only his rebounding skill is good, his court vision is outstanding too. For a big man to able to pass that good the offensive can be dynamic. Remember to send his resume to NT coach after his U21 journey.

Season 22 Magzine cover: Our champ

congrats for winning the league champion hope can give us some thought on those question>[

1. whats the feeling like when you know you wining the SBBL title?

CPU: My first SBBL title after so many seasons, the feeling is great!

2. what do you think is the key player that able to bring such success

CPU: Ruudi Kallas and Yeo Tse Hui. They are key players for my team.

3. Are you surprise about the win as you might history might repeat from season 20
CPU: I am quite confident of winning this time as the team is stronger.

4. Now heading to a new season, whats is your aim to this season?

CPU: I am aiming to win either the cup or sbbl again. Of course, best is to win both again, hehe.

5. Any rival team that you wish to compliment of?
CPU: EU has been my opponent for both cup and sbbl playoff finals. With a balance team and much experience in winning, they are a formidable opponent.

6. Now we headed to season 22 which team you think might be a threat to you?

CPU: All sbbl teams are a threat to me, but i guess EU, EBC, STN, and SHP are teams that will give me most headache.

7. Any words to the team in SBBL?
CPU: made it after many many attempts, you can do it too.

Here comes the part2...
~~~~~~~Our New U21 ~~~~~~~~~
1. After hearing you speech, now as a U21 head coach, what is your first agenda will be?
U21: Homework as usual, updating our U21 player skills. Then select out 10 best player for the main roster.
2. Any young star might be captain for this season??
U21: Initially should be Li Jin Yew of Wonder Boys team. But due to his commitment to his club, he might not be 100% yet on U21. So the possible captain would be either Long Mingfa (PG) from 新政 or Yip Su Yeng (C) from NANDA
3. From the roster you have, did you see any young prospect you look forward to that might be the future for NT?
U21: Akhuga Chawla from NINJASG and Fan Pingwai from Lionheart Jaguar
4. what is the target or goal for this season and in future?
U21:
Goal for this season are :
1. To make sure the team is competitive enough on Asia Tournament this season. Reason is because the quality of this season U21 are quite unique even though aren't the best. And I'm looking forward to maximize on what they can do.
2. To focus more on players below 20 yo. We need to tune them up so they are ready for next season.
For next season and future, I will be spending more time on 18 yo players, which I might not be able to fully do it on this season.
5. hows is it feel to come back again to be the U21 head coach again?
U21: Feels good to be back, especially with the positive ambience from SGP managers. Really appreciate it !!
6. do you need any help to assist you in this campaign?
U21: For now, I still able to work independently. But eventually, for a better player development focus, I will be looking for few U21 Scouts. If any managers here willing to help out, that will be very cool.
7. any last word for the everyone in this nation?
U21: For managers that still phobia on training player, please let me know if you want to try.
Five seasons ago, Xavis (our longtime SGP team) once told me that he dislike training, but decided to train his two draftees and made the U21 team on S20 and S21.
Anything is possible, so don't hesitate to bbmail me. (RaneLone I hope you read this :p )
