I think as it stands BB has three problems:

1) motivating new teams to stay in the very first weeks

I agree. It´s one thing to get people to try the game, an entirely different matter to get them to stay.

First of we need to understand that not all new players have previous experience from theese kind of games. Many at least of the current batch of top managers had that kind experience and since the basic principles are pretty much the same its not that difficult to get into a new game.

I remember when had my first start with HT i struggled even with the excellent newbie introduction there. If not for a friend of mine who was really into the game i probably wouldnt have got a real understanding of it.

I´m a hardcore soccerfan and in that sport my current game of choice is sokker. They have the exact same problem as BB (in my eyes at least) in not being able to hold on to new players and a lack of proper learning program for newbies.

Apart from that i have another example of a simple thing that should be easier:

I recently (couple of months ago) got a mate of mine to play BB, i was helping him out and told him to check the forums when i noticed that you have to search to find the national forum and the national help forum. (if i remember correctly)
Those really should pop up by default.
The help forum really should be availible through the standings page or something so its easy to spot. To new players its far more important than the division forum as there likely isnt much activity there anyway, at least it is so in my country.

(if this has changed lately please disregard my post)

the idea with the forums is great...

You are right, finding things on the forums without being a supporter is impossible.

I think as a standard, a new player should have the NT forum, the standard english help forum and the standard english forum set as favorites. SO that when they click on forums they have these directly available...

Secondly, but this is a suggestion off topic (it would be nice to be able to bookmark forum topics) I dont think the BB forums are easily to use

me thinking,

we give opportunity to people like us be more to the game, not just words or reading or clicking.

arena largement, for new we give discount or a budget to let us add more seats when i start no one cared for me i only care for winnings so i always pick players.

You can not add NBA players here. First being the licence issue. Second in few seasons they will end their careers anyway. I remember playing nba live as manager for 25 years simulating the games and trading players. As I knew the scorers players etc I knew who to look out for in games. When the first draft came it all got messed up. New faces new names to look out for. As time went on all the known names had retired and the game looked like randombotgenerates vs randombotgenerated as you lose the familiar names you lose intrest. Now what is good in BB is that you get your own team and atleast for me I connected with them immediately. Yes fired some and looked who have potential enough to get trained. Bought some players and am now running team that has me written all over it!!!:) I know my league inside out. Except for the guys who daytrade like crazy their lineup has changed drastically over the season. But the bottom line is I am building a dynasty and I can feel it. I can manage my arena, and I do not have limits to hire staff witch is good. Yes some players will get replaced when I rise in leagues but they will prolly get a nice gift basket with them when they go to their next team. They will always stay in my excel as the guys helping me to advance in the year xxx etc...

The National forum should be very accessible for new managers, perhaps with a link in the step-by-step introduction list, also explaining how to get there manually, and set as a standard favorite in "Forums".

Maybe a mentoring system could be put in place.

If managers could leave other managers comments;

Friendly and helpful
Argumentative and awkward
Communicative and knowledgeable

or

Someone I like and agree with all of the time
Someone I like and agree with some of the time etc
down to
Someone I strongly disagree with

If managers were graded by others it would help newbies take information they read with a pinch of salt or for real.

We all have our favourite posters (and most hated) and so for others to take lead or work with a mentor you would build up a trustworthy or untrustworthy profile for others to see.

Admittedly i'm rambling now and no doubt falling into the 'controversial but this guy does seem to know what he is doing' category.

Thoughts?

From my experience with the spanish community:

People who leave the game are usually because:

- They don´t understand the game engine. They try to apply their HT-knowledge but it does not work the same way.

- The economy at the begining is very hard so you cannot have a lot of fun because you need to wait to have some savings or to get some good trained player.

I would not support ideas that involve making the game easier in terms of strategy, because I think this is the strong point of this game.

Instead:

- Opening ways for experienced users to help new users and get some kind of profit. The PL idea is good, but we may find some similar and more effective ways.

- Improve the way new teams get the initial money.

####

--> Maybe new users could select one team as their guide to the game. A kind of association, so the success of this new team and the permanence of the team in the game would increase some kind of popularity levels. I have seen many of these popularity levels in the internet forums, where you can have some competition with others to be the most popular and helpful user of the forum.

Imo the initial money is fine. Any more and it would be overkill. I'm constantly battleing the new users on TL and most of them are coming in for a week spend their money and leave. I like that it's challenging to make money and the reward is much greater after you have been saving for a month or more to get something decent from the TL.
