The draft is one of the ways to help equalize between teams in a league, as the weaker teams in the league will typically get better draft picks than the better ones. We're overall pretty happy with the draft pools and where players end up, although we review the mechanics of how players are scouted on a regular basis to see if we can find improvements.
So in essence the main reason the draft exists is to equalize between the stronger and weaker teams in the league, and the implementation of the draft is geared only to try and reach that goal.
That is fine, but the problem is that, while the current draft system may achieve that goal, it is undeniably an extremely boring system for all teams involved, the weaker and the stronger ones, because, aside from deciding how much to invest (and maybe changing it once or twice a season) and taking the 5 minutes to order a list of players (the majority of which for obvious reasons are completely useless), you don't do anything at all for the remaining 14 weeks. I'm sure that even the teams that don't end up with any decent players would find a more interactive system to be more stimulating, again, regardless of the final pick. Even if I pick last in the draft, and have no hope of picking a star, I still would like to see a deeper scouting system, I would still love to see more meaningful information on the scouted players, and I would love to have some kind of input on what the scouts actually do.
The problem with the current system is that, while it obviously reaches the goal it has in mind, in many (most?) cases, it does so at a very large cost in terms of gameplay experience for many users, because the teams with the better records just decide to completely ignore the draft, which makes sense from an economical and strategical point of view, but it obviously take away from the general BB-playing experience. And it takes away what should be a VERY important aspect. Deciding, for example, to ignore the specialists or the national teams or the forums or any other "marginal" aspect of the game is fine, but being forced to ignore what should be a KEY aspect of the game, IMO, is absolutely not acceptable.
I'm curious to know, aside from the actual results of the draft, meaning the talent in the draft pools and where the players end up, if you or the other BBs find the entire draft process to be a fun part of the BB-experience, or if you agree with the many MANY users that think that part of the game desperately needs a makeover.
