New skills is too much of a game-changer for me.

I play a cricket game where some (about 10%) of the players have 'trait's and/or 'preferences'. They work the same way - a minor performance boost in some conditions and a minor performance loss in others/down side of some sort.

Traits that might work for BB:

Committed: A player suffer a lower performance drop off during the game as his stamina falls (but has a slightly higher chance of picking up a minor injury).

Fan favourite: A player has slightly improved performance in home games (but slightly worse performance on the road)

Big mouth: A player is slightly more likely to draw fouls from his opponent (but is slightly more likely to be assessed for a technical foul)

Team leader: The team receives a small enthusiasm boost when he is on court (but the player commands 5% or so higher salary than his skills would otherwise command).

- You get the idea and I'm sure everyone could contribute their own 'traits'.

The important thing in terms of game design is that

1. only a few players have them
2. they make only a small impact on the game
3. they make enough impact to be worthwhile/interesting.

It's a tricky balancing act but if I was a BB, introducing some kind of 'traits' system would be high on my list of things to do to make the game better - and it wouldn't affect the current skill set up.

I like the traits idea better than the new skills. How would you train communication? Something like this: l would like to train pg/sg on rosetta stone for two weeks please.

Basically, the idea of adding new skillset is a good one. And I totally support that.

In a more specific note:
1) Set Shot (and please remove the short name you gave) - I don't like the skillset. I don't see the potential in that.
2) CH - nice.
3) CO - Improving both the handling and the passing game... I like it less.
4) TT - Not a fan for that either.

To the list you've brought, I will add:
1) I think that there should be a parallel abilities to regular game - the clutch-moments abilities. Some of them will be higher/lower during those moments.
2) Breaking the outside-defence into 1-1 defence and zone/assistance-defence.

this is a great start but u missed several important "perks"

studmuffin (SEX) the ability to score with an opponents girlfriend before the game leaving him horny and tense causing him to committ more fouls

kelpto (TAK) the ability to steal the opponents equipment without balls to practice before the game all their js is reduced by 2 levels

pyro (BRN) you breakinto the opponents dressing room before the game and burn their jerseys and shoelaces - without numbers their offensive flow is wrecked and with no shoelaces they cant drive very well

stoner (DOP) if some of the guys on your team are fouling too much add a guy with this perk & their aggerssion is set to 0 and they never foul, the unfortunate side effect is their stamina is also set to atrocious as they constantly wander off the court with the munchies

flatulence (POO) you break wind in a smelly way sometimes even following through while your opponents are making free throws - their whole team has FT reduced to inept

I have a bunch of other ideas, but I figure I'll start with the ones that I'm sure everyone will agree will make the game better before I start introducing the more radical ideas.

I see a need for a steals stat

Only problem with this is: does a player actually ever develop their steal skill? I just happen to believe that a player is either able to create steals or just hacks the hell outta the opponent when trying.

I don't even think SB is something that can be 'taught'

But dat jus me.
