And if a basketball coach was ever specifically told by their boss to play a particular player for the whole game, they would. The coach is an employee of the franchise and as their employer I expect certain orders to be followed.

This has nothing to do with 'sacrificing' realism or achieving game balance, because;

A: There was no realism in the training system to begin with. Players in real life don't have to play a certain amount of minutes at a specific position per week just to gain access to a training session with the coach and/or trainers.

B: So obviously playing 48 minutes in real life is unrealistic, but only because there's no playing time based training system in real life. So if players randomly not playing 48 minutes was designed as a feature and not a bug, that's one element of realism that needs to be 'sacrificed' in order to make the game better.

C: Also, the last thing we need is for training to be more difficult due to an unexplained feature where the coach will randomly disobey our orders. That's not good game balance.

FWIW, my experience with blowout minutes is that you can get 48 minutes for your trainees if the following conditions are met:

1) Dress no more than 9 players - your trainee, and Starter + Backup/Reserve for the other 4 positions.
2) Set the trainee as Starter + Backup + Reserve at the desired position
3) Set to Strictly Follow Depth Chart
4) Ensure the trainee has decent stamina. If the trainee is 4 (inept) or lower stamina, there's a chance the coach will decide the trainee is tired enough he should come out of a blowout, even in SFDC. I assume it's because there's a higher injury risk when a player is tired or something, so the coach is weighing that against what you told him to do and figuring it's better to ask forgiveness for pulling the player.

Stamina is a good point... however the specific game that triggered this current thread saw a player of mine with Average (6) stamina get subbed off. The game before that, a player with Mediocre (5) stayed in for the 48, despite the match situation possibly justifying such a substitution.

If there is a specific pattern that results in the coach going against the manager's wishes in this scenario where the first three steps have all been followed, I'm not seeing it.

Judging by the box score (and the Ratings) of your 11/28 game, which I assume is the game in question, I wonder if the stamina effect I see with my teams is more of a "player's current effectiveness is WAY WAY worse" than everyone else on the team effect. So in my case I only see it with very low stamina players, because I'm still lower div and my trainees are not that much below my starters in terms of stats / rating / playing power.

It happened twice to me also this week.
I can understand losing 1-2 minutes to train almost 100% players, but losing 7 minutes after putting a player in the lineup, backup and reserve in the same role, playing with only 9 players with a slow pace is too much for me.
Or you allow a player to stay 48 minutes on the field in that condition or you should put a lower limit for the complete weekly training (40-45?).

It's really frustating, especially when the only way to reduce the gap to the betters team is training

Can someone tell me why I lost my last playoff game? Did I do something wrong, I had a better team and had the upper hand. Was this just a bad luck lost or is there something wrong with my team?

Check your PG's rating and his. He knew it's your weakest position and abused it. These things can happen when someone's using Patient. He played the last game with this tactic this too, should've assigned your best outside defender to PG imo.

Probably unlucky, but I'd say gameshape would have been the biggest factor. The key against patient offense is locking down on the best shooter (his pg). When you match him up with a player in average gameshape it's always going to hurt you.

As rude as this is going to sound, I need to say it so that bad forum habits don't develop. Out of all of the following options:

- Using (251520.1)
- Creating a new thread in Help.
- Creating a new thread in Global.
- Creating a new thread in Bugs.
- Hijacking a thread in Help.
- Hijacking a thread in Global.
- Hijacking a thread in Bugs.

You chose the last option. Your brain went through a decision making process and came to the conclusion that this was the place where you'd have the best chance of receiving help from other managers. Was there any aspect of this thread in particular prior to your arrival that was related to your problem?

Somehow this strategy 'worked' and I have no idea how, but you would've gotten a better result if you had chosen options 1-3.

But to answer the question, you played your starters in the scrimmage on Thursday. That put them well over the 45-75 minute target that you should aim to keep every player on the team around for playing time each week.
