I think a free choice of names is a bad idea, as we don't want endless Michael Jordans etc in the game.

But perhaps for draftees only the game could generate a couple of random alternatives which the manager could then pick from, much like being able to change his appearance. That way we keep the random element but there's still an option to get rid of 'bad' names.

I agree. Look for example at Milwaukee Lethargy. (23424). That guy has 15 (FIFTEEN) players of the same face. Although I think some name-changing should be possible, for example when you draft a player like this: (42945187) (41164553). Maybe allow for 1 name change per season.

It seems that I forgot to make my main point in the previous post, my bad. My idea is that there should be a mechanism for when a manager drafts a player with a name they don't want (for example, because it's the name of either a controversial figure), but it should be strict so that we don't have to experience such circus. If someone is capable of giving (almost) all of their draftees the same face, then a team full of Michael Jordans, LeBrons or Tim Duncans would be but a matter of time. So my full idea is that, once or twice a season, a manager gets to have the name of their player "re-randomized", or, as a diffrent person suggested, allow the manager to pick a name from a few randomized names. Then the GM's wouldn't be bothered (or would be bothered less) by people unhappy with the names of their newly drafted players.
