team Polydozel fell short in season opener

This particular PAL Arena attendance is on a raucous mood. They know it, and they love it. They are watching their team play in the top league in the country. The crowd roared as they announce their starting 5. Team Polydozel is 4 persons away from the sellout crowd numbers... maybe those 4 have something to think twice next time they miss a game.

It was a great season opener as witnessed by fans. Team Polydozel, playing focused as ever, right from the jump ball to the end of first half, the Polydozel guards gave Air 21 Express a hard time to have a run. Cirilio Magoncia, who started at point for team Polydozel, made many openings for team Polydozel, attacking basket after basket, but only made 2 goals. Melencio Tanas had 13 points at halftime.

Team Polydozel was throwing bricks, totaling 39 shots out of 93 attempts, compared to Air 21's 41 of 83.

Luke Cepeda, who finished the 4th season with 9.0 ppg and 10.8 rpg, scored 17 points, shooting 8 of 9 shots, with 15 rebounds, 6 assists, and two blocks. The usual.

"Luke is always as remarkable as he can be." says Air 21 guard Ruel Garvez, who only played 13 minutes. "He's improving a lot in a short span of time and he's still young."

"We really expected that they will have a blowout win." says melencio Tanas, who scored 40 points, with 4 3-pointers. "We tried to contain their starters... we're glad we fell short, rather than a big loss."

Polydozel's next opponents will be Sta.Lucia Realtors, who was tied with 3rd place with Devil Bats Deimon in the Big 8 Conference last season. They will play at the Cuestra Verde Stadium. A TV game playing away in the top league may just what team Polydozel needed.

"This coming game will be very exciting. We have still time to prepare and to train and hopefully we would have a result just like this game, if not better." says Tanas.

Initial list of players announced

It was announced by a radio station that a list of players is being leaked and sent to different stations, and is confirmed that this is the initial line-up for the Philippine National team.

The lineup consists of 17 players, coming from the domestic league, the international leagues, and some managed to do both.

"We figured that these players that will play in the Asia Championship Tournament, will be the rough draft. I haven't got word from other coaches both domestic and international for player inquiries. There are still raw talent that's been around." Says newly elected NT manager Katchafire Collie.

"It isn't the 100% NT team, but it's not one to underestimate either. There may be players that may play in the team out of their position, as we are lacking on the back court, but we haven't stopped scouting and maybe in a week or two, we can add up another player." Collie added.

The Philippine National team, bannered by the name "pilipinas basketball", will play against kazakhstan on may 19, in Japan, at the arena "Slightly Left of Centre".

Pilipinas Basketball is grouped in Pool B, along with India, Malaysia, Hanguk, Kazakhstan, and Asia powerhouse Australia.

The Philippines is seeded 27th in the world and 5th among Asia, and BBSN asked coach Collie if what preparations would they do in the upcoming tournament.

"Because of the time share with their respective teams, I don't handle their training that much, majority of their training is within their respective teams. I, however, decided to cal up their managers, and to ask them if it would be possible to focus train these players, so that training will be quicker and they would develop much better. Maybe once in every other weeks." says Collie.

As of this time, the list consists of the following players who will play against Kazakhstan :

- Mark Sydiongco (G) (2205362)
- Rogen Tamala (F) (2205427)
- Arvin Eslaban (F) (2205506)
- Gabino Gozalo (G) (2205361)
- Brian Masuecos (G) (2303685)
- Mark Anthony Sumagaysaysay (G/F) (2210231)
- Joie Taytay (C) (2205422)
- Jorge Sarabia (G) (2205517)
- Simeon Tongson (C/F) (2615688)
- Alfonso Aday (G) (2636280)
- Jhoaden Nordista (G) (2560747)
- Wilhelm Carillo (F) (3160483)
- Mario Cane (F) (2244614)
- Charlemagne Caraballa (C) (2430220)

- Ruel Garvez (C) (2205644)

Chester Empleo sacked in Polydozel squad

Polydozel guard Chester Empleo has been kicked out of the team according to the team's official website teampolydozel.com. According to the website, Empleo was a victim to the team salary cutting to slash down expenditures as the team makes plans to survive in the Philippine Premier League financially.

Statistically, his weekly salary can be used for stadium expansion, that is scheduled in the middle of the season, as more and more fans are flocking towards the team, despite their horrible record.

They have a record of 0-2, and they are predicted to survive relegation, roughly 5th-6th place.

Chester Empleo is one of the first members of team Polydozel, joining in Season 3. Up to this season, he has been crowded with playing time with the likes of star guard Mervyn Jamora, and their 2nd best point Cirilio Magoncia. This season, his role is still a bench-warmer and has been hinted for sacking with the arrival of rookie Juppert Zamora.

Empleo had an average playing time of 10 minutes, one of the lowest, if not the lowest, for team Polydozel. There has not been quite a buzz in the fanbase, as they think that his firing don't disrupt the team harmony and chemistry.

"One thing that we're wondering is that why didn't the team fire him earlier." says one fan blogger. "He has made no contributions en route to two finals appearance... if there is one, maybe it's because they were cautious on losing a point guard and having no one to back 'em up. That maybe was their only, and expensive, solution."

"The acquirement of Zamora clearly explains it, as soon as they got Zamora, Empleo was pleading to get a playing time and to prove himself. The team knew his ability and chose otherwise." says the blogger.

team Polydozel "legion"ized the Demons

Wandsworth Demons, the only team without a win, and quite was in a streak as they play hosts to the visiting and season 4 league II.3 champions team Polydozel. It's the second meeting of team Polydozel with a season 4 fellow promotee, and the first for Wandsworth.

Team Polydozel started the rally with a 11-3 run right off the jump ball, then, a series of great plays by Tanas and Guarnes almost predicted the whole game, only by the last minutes of the quarter, the Demons manage to cut the lead by 10, landing the first quarter score 31-21 Polydozel lead.

Polydozel trailed again by the start of the second quarter, until a Demons run rattled the visiting team's defense, Including a key three-pointer by Renate Montecarlo and a driving layup by Rafael Dagdag 3 minutes into the second quarter. They were rattled by the Demons' Full court press, but still manage to hold the lead. 59-51.

Third quarter is still the same thing, Demons trying to rattle the Polydozels and the visiting team trying to hold their composure, defense after defense, offense after offense. Shots missed, and rebounds overflowing by the team Polydozel. At the end of third quarter, Team Polydozel leads 82-74.

Fourth quarter was somewhat strange, the first 6 minutes of the quarter seems that nobody was at it. the score of 6-6 at the fourth quarter with 6 minutes remaining. After then, shots keep raining and raining massively, the fourth quarter shooting in the first four minutes was done after a couple of minutes, and both teams were fired up and ready to do crunch time. Wandsworth doing steals after steals, team Polydozel snags rebounds after rebounds, and both teams keep hitting shots.

In the end, team Polydozel wins it with the score of 116-98. Hipolito Guarnes was the high point man with 35 points, with 13 rebounds and playing for a full 48 minutes. Simeon Tongson, the teams representative to the National Team, produced 18 points, snagged 27 rebounds, and 10 turnovers.

Team Polydozel had a total of 98 rebounds against the Demon's 43, blocking 13 shots against the Demons 5, yet, team Polydozel had a total of 38 turnovers, against Wandsworth's 8.

"We were really careless on the ball, especially Simeon." says the Polydozel trainer Cristobal Key. "Our first pass always lead to Simeon, and Wandsworth Demons really did a god job on singling out on him. Yet, he did a good job on rebounding and hitting the baskets."

"Tongson is a worth-to-tell athlete today, but it's a hats-off to Hipolito Guarnes today. He's becoming better and better each day and I expect better from him later on. I think it's going to be better from here even if [Tongson] has NT duty dividing his attention on the league. Relegation, I think, would be no problem if Guarnes is around, and if my boys step up every step of the way." says the team coach.

team Polydozel suffers another cup upset

Fair Play Kalunasan Center was a sellout, all have been anticipating to see the much awaited cup game, Fair Play Kalunasan doesn't want to go out of the cup, and so is team Polydozel, as they stated last season.

Team Polydozel lost in the third round against a bot team, Bees Taragona, and since then they've been very cautious in the coming games. They believe that they are one of the teams who are worthy of a spot in the cup.

Fair Play Kalunasan, however, is still a bot team.

Team Polydozel started the game, as always, with a startling run, which was caught on early on by FPK, halting team Polydozel's run. Defense plays well in the middle of the first quarter, ending the quarter by the score 24-13.

FPK, however, rallied down in the second quarter, taking advantage on Polydozel's incomplete lineup. The Polydozel big men, Tacdoro and Sumaylo, sat down the rest of the game with injuries.

Second half was different for both teams, as FPK was on the lead, and team Polydozel was trailing. up to the fourth quarter.

Team Polydozel came strong in making run after run, as Guarnes and Gotardo made key plays to reduce the game lead into 4, with 42 seconds remaining. Cirilo Magoncia managed to shoot down a three pointer with 38 seconds remaining, and Henry Cortel failed to make one free throw, thus tallying the score 80-82, with 19 seconds remaining.

Herminio Cojuangco became the hero of the game as he managed to force the game into overtime by banking a shot from the wing, despite the excellent guarding by Michel Tupas.

However, Fair Play Kalunasan won the game by running the whole overtime game, mingling with stamina, their advantage, and thus, tiring team Polydozel and letting them miss shots. forcing guards to play inside offense, which makes them tire more.

With Polydozel missing shots and poor returns, Fair Play Kalunasan managed to blow up a lead at the end. 91-95, with 8 seconds remaining. Jason Quiapo's free throws made team Polydozel realize that they will be having extended breaks, as they knew, they won't be making it in the cup. Again.

A three-pointer was made, but it was too late, as they ran out of time and Fair Play Kalunasan managed to advance to the cup, against the favorite, team Polydozel, with the score of 94-95.

"We really didn't believe that we would be eliminated this early, they did a good job on us. We're focused to get ready for the cup, but we didn't had the focus to be ready for them." says Hipolito Guarnes, who scored 27 points in 23 minutes. "They were really good today and I do think that they will have a good chance if they play this well towards the cup."

"This won't be the end for us." says the team coach. "With this elimination, it means that we could focus on the RIZAL Cup now. It's like we are waiting for the opponents." says jokingly.

Poly-rally

After their heartbreaking loss at the Philippine cup, critics and analysts began to wonder if team Polydozel really bears an image as one of the teams who are worthy members in the premier league.

However, team Polydozel made these people to think twice over again.

Team Polydozel managed to shut down Devil Bats Deimon, leading to their first loss, last night with the score of 52-76 at the PAL Arena. It is Devil Bats' first loss of the season and team Polydozel's third straight win at the Premier League.

It is also the first time the Devil Bats managed to score in less than 60 points (52) making this game their lowest score in a game so far.

Mervyn Jamora scored 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Hipolito Guarnes, who leads the team in scoring with 23.2 ppg, only managed to score 17 points in this low-scoring ballgame.

Out of 8 players rotating in the ballgame, Eugene Demafeliz is the only player in Devil Bats Deimon who managed to score in double digits (22) in the ball game. Israel native Yossi Michaeli, who averages 13 points per game in 7 games, didn't produce a goal in the ballgame. shooting 0 of 11 shots, thanks to the pesky defensive play by Guarnes and Nolie Corneja. But he managed to grab 11 rebounds.

"Coach told us to concentrate on Michaeli, as he delivers one of the deadliest jumpers in the league. If every Deimon players contribute, then we will have a harder game to win." says Nolie Corneja, who only scored 8 points.

"We tried to play conservatively slow to disrupt their momentum. as soon as the second half started, we knew that they're gonna play aggressively, so we tried to play full court press and give pressure on the shooters, especially on Michaeli." says Cirilio Magoncia, who started at point guard in the game.

Deimon's leading scorer, Christian Suropia, only scored 5 points, as Magoncia and rookie guard Juppert Zamora pleased fans with their prominent defense.

"We just motivated ourselves to play more on defense, as this team is hard to defend. Devil Bats is composed of talented players who are always on offense-frenzy. Everyone can shoot and can manage to score in double digits. So we tried to maim their offensive power, and it worked." says team coach of team Polydozel.

This is the first meeting between the two teams, and despite the intimidating standing of the Devil Bats Deimon, team Polydozel managed to even all odds and make the game in their favor.

"Deimon is a good team, which makes them exciting to face." says the team trainer Cristobal Key. "The better team you beat, the better your critics will shut up."

"We proved once again that we are still one of the teams worth looking at. Our aim is to play in the playoffs. Not to play for Relegation." Says Guarnes.

BBB future looks bright for Jubas beasts, Air 21 Express

The first ever BuzzerBeater's Best is now ongoing for the third round. 64 surviving teams battle it out on a one-game, win-or-go-home situation, and our country's pride, the Air 21 Express and Jubas Beasts, are still active for the cup.

Four teams represent the Philippines in the first ever BBB cup. Unfortunately, the RED ROBINS were eliminated in the second round by Malaysia's Shohoku Basketball, ending their vie for the coveted international tournament.

Along with RED ROBINS, Trailblazers United also lost early in the tournament. as one of the favorites to play further in the cup, fans seemed surprised at their loss.

"This is rather shocking. we never imagined that the Blazers would lose in that round... and in such a big lead. They seem unprepared." says one Blazer fan.

The Jubas Beasts however, find the first stages of the tournament easy as they keep giving blow-out wins. Their focus at the tournament is somewhat serious, and having fun all at the same time.

"We wanted to play better and enjoy ourselves in the tournament, as we manage to travel all over the world to play basketball, and see the host team's countries and culture." Says Jorge Sarabia, Beasts guard. "But that doesn't mean we have to play sloppily at the tournament, we don't want to let our fans down."

Jubas Beasts is still active in the Philippine cup, which makes their game schedule crowded. But, this is not the case for them.

"We enjoy playing games, whether they are local teams or from other countries. It makes us learn to recognize different plays and defenses and is vital to our team." says Beasts sharpshooter Liang Wai Cheng.

After taking a free ride in the first round with a bye, Air 21 Express managed to scrape a win in the second round, by beating the Portuguese powerhouse Santarém Lions. aside from Ruel Garvez's 21 point, 8 rebound production, Air 21 managed to have 4 other players with double-digit points and rebounds.

"it's great to see Air 21 players playing smoothly as a team, 'cause they're fun to watch. You never know who to defend or watch." says one Air 21 Express fan. "And that was shown in their BBB match."

Air 21's next opponents is the Scottish champions Scream Team, A team who also screams "Team!" on offense.

"They have good calibers for a team, they are more of role players than stars. This game will be interesting to watch." says Air 21's center Luke Cepeda.

Blazing through the top

Trailblazers United crashed into the PAL Arena to face off the hosts team Polydozel. It is the first meeting of these two teams. Team Captains Ubaldo Nudalo (Trailblazers) and Hernando Nellas (Polydozel) squared off for the first time in the league.

Despite Nellas' experience, Nudalo forced him to bow down and watch the Trailblazers blaze into their fifth victory with the score 106-88.

Nudalo scored 34 points, missing 6 out of 19 shots, 23 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks, and a three. He also limited the Power forward's shots to 3 of 21 overall (Nellas, Gotardo).

Mervyn Jamora, on the other hand, tried to rally up the game with his 26 point, 6 rebounds, 4 steal performance, but they simply couldn't catch up.

One notable highlight of the game is in the first quarter, where the Blazers managed to maim the home team's defense, thus limiting their first quarter score to 5 points (compared to the first quarter score of the Blazers, 22).

The next three quarters were different, though. As team Polydozel managed to answer back all shots by the Blazers, tieing their 2nd and 3rd quarter scores.

...but the lead was still in there... They couldn't get the lead to drop.

"There was this time where we would open up four to six point runs... they just simply answer it." says Hipolito Guarnes, who garnered up 14 points in 18 minutes.

The TrailBlazers' will travel to face Negros Slashers this coming Tuesday. Predictions are out and the Slashers' odds are stacked up. Even though they have the home court advantage, the TrailBlazers are predicted favorites to win the event.

Nudalo hurt in National Team scrimmage

Ubaldo Nudalo was called on by the national team and played 9 minutes in the scrimmage game against the Indonesian National Team, held at the Ubaldo Nudalo Stadium, Philippines. He was injured by a collision on another player.

"He's fine, but we need to sit him out of the game just to be safe." says the National Team doctor.

Nudalo scored 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist... not bad for playing 9 minutes.

Uci Guiterez scored 46 points, 17 rebounds, 4 blocks, with 6 of 13 on the 3-point range. Indonesia's point guard Djohan had 25 points, 8 assist and 6 three-pointers as well.

Jhoaden Nordista answered back for 36 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, with 2 steals. Noe Roxas had 16 points and shot 7 of 20 on the field.

Five players from the Philippine team scored in double digits, totalling in 84 points. While Indonesia only had three players, totalling to 83 points.

"All throughout the game it was dead even." says Katchafire Collie, head coach of the National Team. "Shots go back and forth... so we decided to leave them behind in the second half by pushing the ball more aggressively."

"Nudalo's injury reminded the rest of the team to push further. Even though it's a scrimmage game, the country's pride is at stake." Says Wilhelm Carillo. "We couldn't afford a loss in the national level, not even in the scrimmages.
