I feel from as soon as they can start on your team without being a liability to forever you should be trying to push their minutes as high as possible. Next year with Willis I am going to be aiming for about 90 a week and keeping him about Respectable GS. Yes its not entirely efficient for his performance but if I don't have to worry about GS for the NT I want to boost his XP as much as possible. You know on your schedule what the big games are and where you will need their GS to be in prime form and you can just plan accordingly.

I'd never really thought about this before, with Weeks I've always just played him around 60 mins to keep his GS at 8 or 9. I guess it does make sense that if I were to increase his minutes per week from 60 to 80/90 that it would noticeably improve his experience over the course of a few seasons. The only risk I see is that more minutes increases the chance of injury but I think the additional Exp would be worth it.

Yes it is a risk, but I agree with you the additional XP in the long run is worth it. Here's my question however, we know playoff minutes increase experience faster than league games. Do cup minutes increase it faster than league games? Or is it same pace/less? Side note do we think scrimmage minutes increase XP at all?

I always assumed it was Scrimmage, League, Cup, and then NT games in increasing order. I wasn't aware of there being a difference for playoff games but that's good to know.

If I had to make a wild guess I'd rank them

Scrimmage < League < Cup < NT < Playoffs < NT Semi's/Finals

He in the database. You may already be doing this, but the best thing you can do (beyond training him effectively) is log into the db site to keep his skills up to date.
