Despite incredible numbers, I don't think he has a chance. I believe the success of the team is too important in the MVP equation. I'll present my case study and evidence:
Michele Bello
Season 29: 19.4 ppg, 0.567 fg%, 12.6 rpg, 3.8 apg Team Result: 9th Overall Voting Result: Not on ballot
Season 30: 20.0 ppg, 0.550 fg%, 12.7 rpg, 3.7 apg Team Result: 3rd Overall Voting Result: Unanimous MVP
I'll be the first to acknowledge this reasoning isn't 100% sound. It also depends on how many good players have great stat lines combined with the success of their respective teams. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it can be very situational from season to season. Even though my guy was consistent for those two seasons, Kristijan Matijašević (22.6 ppg, 15.1 rpg) was way better in S29 and Tucumcari won the championship. However, I would think Michele Bello would have gotten at least one vote? I'd like to know if there has ever been an MVP from a struggling team, but I'm way too lazy to find out for myself.
