I always assumed it was Scrimmage, League, Cup, and then NT games in increasing order. I wasn't aware of there being a difference for playoff games but that's good to know.

If I had to make a wild guess I'd rank them

Scrimmage < League < Cup < NT < Playoffs < NT Semi's/Finals

He in the database. You may already be doing this, but the best thing you can do (beyond training him effectively) is log into the db site to keep his skills up to date.
