Hanguk U21 106 - 84 Lubnan U21
(40575)

Live report on this potentially important game in the Season 37 consolation tournament. We're on the road, but our team looks fit and ready to go. A last minute change to the roster Hyun-Min Kim (39547269) suffered a minor injury in saturday's league game and will have to sit this one out. We hope to have him back, and hopefully fit, for next week's final game. The team could really use his help this game too, but will just have to hold it down in his honour.

The team comes out swinging early, with Sung-Hwan Kim (39940948) leading the way, leading scorer in the 1st Quarter. Scoring is pretty evenly distributed on our squad, with everybody getting some touches. A pretty back and forth affair with Hanguk U21 leading 29-26 after 1 quarter, with some end of the quarter scoring surge. Soo-Hyun Park (39940962) had a chance at a 3-point play, but failed to convert on the free throw. Guan-Yon Ahn (40391596) scored a quick 2 off a three throw miss. We were able to maintain a 3 point lead just as the Q ended.

Right out of the break, we force Lubnan into early foul trouble with our inside presence, getting a few free throw conversions. Both teams seem to have gone cold for a 3 minute stretch after the first minute of the quarter. Sung-Hwan Kim goes for a dunk and gets fouled. One Bashiti (41545510) is fouled out of the game and another (40523078) is taking his place. Sung-Hwan Kim is having a field day today and making their PFs work. Lubnan is not going down quietly and manages to keep pace. Jung-Hyun Choi (40800748) picks up his 4th foul. So far, a 18-13 2nd Quarter for Hanguk U21 with 3 mins left in the half. Lubnan takes advantage of Choi's weak defense with a 3 pointer. What Choi suffers in personal fouls, he's making up for in steals converting 4 turnovers so far. Just as the half ends, Lubnan tries to keep it tight with a quick 2 to end the quarter, but Byung-Joo Lee (40391649) won't allow for none of that, swats it outta here. We end off with a 24-18 2nd Q, going into the locker room with a 9 point lead. 53-44. We dominated the inside this quarter, with not a single shot from beyond the 3-point line.

Lubnan comes out strong after the break, determined to keep this a close game, so far 3 minutes in, leading the quarter 8-6. (boo.. accidentally closed the tab. lost some mid quarter reporting) We take a 10 point lead in the quarter, leading 25-15 this quarter. Lubnan comes on hard towards the end of the quarter, we picked up a few fouls. The foul troubled Choi sinks a 3 just before the end of the quarter to cap a 28-16 Q3. Hanguk U21 leads 81-60. Final 12 minutes to come for us to put it away.

We start the final quarter with our bench players. Seung-Bum Kim (40391578) gets fouled hard and has to leave the game. Leaves with 4 for 5 shooting, 2 off reb, 2 ast, and 9 points. Looks like Moo-Yun Jung (39547251) has to come in and further assert his dominance and close out the game. Back and forth quarter so far. Seems defense is not of importance. 13-10 in the quarter for Hanguk, with 6 mins to go. 3s flying from everywhere, for both teams! Hanguk, more or less, has this one in the bag. Game is over. 106-84.

Although we would have liked a greater point spread, we gain 22 point difference on our standing, and will need to look at the scoreboards of other teams, in hopes of our chances of advancing. Wendell and Scotland, I'll be keeping a keen eye on your game. (-__-) Overall, great spread of the ball 21 team assists, everybody passing the ball well, and playing a full 4 quarters game, with a solid 24 to 30 points each quarter.

Next week will be last of the qualifying games. Don't think I'll be able to report live, too early for me, but do tune in if you can, as we make an attempt to qualify into the consolation tournament for first time in history!

Hey stats,

thanks for keeping an eye on our game. What exactly did you do to get those players (or refs?) to let the game get tied and into OT? I'm rather disappointed.

I had some hopes of winning this game and if we'd played at home, we'd have gotten another win. But that's life ... so now I just hope that you'll get another win next week in order to advance ... and congrats on your win yesterday

And I'll be sure to send you an invitation for a scrimmage in the weeks to come (we're going to square off with Ghana first, but after that, I'd be happy to see if you "deserve" to have a better record that Scotland in the consolation tournament^^)

Keep up the good work ... it's great to see what you guys achieve with those limited resources. And don't be too disappointed, Perpete - I'm sure you'll have a great team next season ...

It'll definitely be a huge game for you guys ... I hope you'll find the right tactics and everything else that's needed for the win (and then enough luck for the other games to go your way) ...
