Let's say you have an 18 year old, star potential player that you drafted (or even paid up to a couple hundred thousand for). You spend four or five seasons with a level 4 trainer two position training four or five other guys with him to get a guy built the way you want, say factor in another three hundred thousand for that (seventy weeks at roughly 20k/week, divided among five players). 500k for a player built the way you want, who can play meaningful minutes at any level in the game, for fifteen seasons, with the fan survey and merchandise benefits that accrue? I don't know how to value that on the ledger, but I do know not having to go out and buy a backup guard/SG/SF every few seasons and eat depreciation there is worth it.

I'm trying to follow your example, as it seems you are trying to give training a fair shake. What is the $20k per week you speak of? Thanks.

That didn't sound right, so I took a quick look at the level four trainers on the market right now, just as a quick snapshot. Of the next ten level 4 trainers listed, only two have a salary under $20,000 and 8 are above that line. The bidding on the two under that line is at $520,200 for Leo Belu and $173,400 for Achacjusz Anonim, an auction with more than seven hours to run. Of the other eight level 4 trainers, only one has a salary in the $20's, and his bidding is already up to $325,000. Three salaries are in the $30's, three in the $40's, and the final guy has a salary of $79,340 (he also has a specialty).

So, upon closer scrutiny, a nice "calculation" turns out just to be a story. I would like to see fair calculations on this topic.

I was just here to explain the "20k a week" thing.

Okay, and you know the "20k a week" thing is pie in the sky, right? [I could have used much stronger language.] One out of ten in an admittedly small sample was affordable (unless the bidding soared after I looked), one was bid grossly high and the rest were already above $20k before they were even bought.

You cannot say New York City is generally populated with giraffes just because once there was a giraffe in NYC. You cannot say a level four trainer generally costs $20k a week just because one may have.

I would still like to see a fair computation of the current situation.

And two of them, with salaries of $18,476 and $16,207 just failed to get an opening bid of $1,000. You could have bid on these guys days ago and gotten either one. No bidding war. No need to be online when the auction ends. And this really is not that uncommon. I normally dump my lvl 4 trainers when their salary hits $20k/wk and find another one with a starting salary below $13k, spending somewhere between $10k to to $100k to make the purchase. Been doing that for a long time.
